I've seen the halfgiant fullblade user posts, but I'm confused about a few things:

1. Does the "fullblade" weapon still exist in 3.5? How about the Merc GS?

2. Where are the rules for the "balanced" enhancement? How about "heavy" and "platinum"?

3. If you're starting with, say, an ogre:

Ogre-sized greatsword
EWP in some kind of bigger weapon (like what?)
Then Monkey-grip the bigger weapon?
Then make sure it's heavy, made of platinum, and enchanted for balance?

I'm a little confused here, I think, because of the mixing of 3.0 and 3.5 rules.

The reason I ask- I'm trying to come up with a build for an ogre-mage that uses a big sword.

Well, sort of... The fullblade was really just a scaled up version of a weapon that already existed(Greatsword?) Mercurial Greatsword exist in 3.5? Not to my knowledge.

Rules for heavy weapons are in either Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, or Magic of Faerun. I can't remember which, though I would bet it's in FRCS. Balanced is from The Arms and Equipment Guide if I'm not mistaken.

As far as making that Ogre Mage you're talking about, you'd have to confer with your DM as far as mixing 3.0 and 3.5 rules. If you are the DM and you're making it for an NPC, I'd suggest checking those resources and determining it based on your finding. Most of that should work, though.

I'm the DM -

It seems to me that the fullblade should be removed, and I should just use the "large greatsword" as the base. So I make that heavy, which requires an EWP. With Monkey Grip I can use a huge heavy greatsword, and with balanced I can use a colossal heavy balanced greatsword if I have EWP and Monkeygrip.

Is this right?

Monkey Grip lets you use a weapon one size up (or down?) as if it were the normal handed-ness.

Heavy is the same as upping the size.

So a Gold [M] Greatsword counts as a Large Greatsword.

--Ogre-sized greatsword
Translation: [L] Greatsword

--EWP in some kind of bigger weapon (like what?)
You just made that up.

--Then Monkey-grip the bigger weapon?
You mean a Ogre (large) using a [H] Greatsword, two-handed at -2 to hit.

--Then make sure it's heavy, made of platinum, and enchanted for balance?
A platinum [H] Greatsword counts as a [G] Greatsword.

--I'm a little confused here, I think, because of the mixing of 3.0 and 3.5 rules.
Oh yeah, you are.

Simple trick for remembering sizes: The first letter goes in reverse alphabetical order for smallerest to largest (except for the very first)
Dimunative, Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, Huge, Gargantuan, Collasal.

wouldnt you get a dmg increase do to size from each of these?

1/2 ogre is larg so can wield larger weapons.

anyone can wield a weapon 1 category larger then they are at a -2

Weapon made of Gold

Monkey grip feat

Balanced weapon ability.

so wouldnt a greatswords dmg be increased 5 times compared to the standard sized greatsword?

I notice no one actually answered your questions.

1) Yes both exist in 3.5. Both can be found in the Arms and Equipment guide.

2) Balanced is found in the Arms and Equipment guide as well, while Heavy weapons are found in either FRCS or the MoF. To the best of my knowledge, platimum is in reference ot the type of metal that makes a weapon "heavy."

3) As an Orge Magi, you can use the Fullblade without spending any feats if you use it two handed which gives a base of 2d8 damage, balance it and make it a larger weapon, increasing the dice one step and then make it heavy to increase the dice another step. Monkey gripping the weapon allows it to be increased another size for a further increase in damage dice but at penalties to hit.

Does using a "heavy" version of it require an EWP?

...I probably ought to just go RTFM. Thanks Previn.
