Beguiler + Spell Hand = Arcane Trickster? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have an odd thought percolating in my head.

Our party needs a trapfinder. We have arcane, divine, and warrior all handled.

I was wondering, would a beguiler with the Spell Hand feat qualify for Arcane Trickster?

I don't have the PHBII on me right now (the idea just occurred to me here today), so I'm not up on all the whytos and wherefores...but if Spell Hand's mage hand ability would allow a beguiler to qualify for Arcane trickster, the skills shouldn't be difficult, if I recall correctly.

to help with the analysis, I have these stats to work with:

18, 17, 16, 10, 8, 7

I was thinking of a gnome:

Str 8 (was 10)
Dex 18
Con 10 (was 8)
Int 17 (all level +'s go here, for eventual 22)
Wis 7
Cha 16

Comments? Suggestions? Am I an idiot? Insane? Or brilliant? But most of all, will Spell hand let me qualify? I say yes! :D

Well, you need 2d6 sneak attack to qualify for the AT, so no, not without further help. Additionally, very few (if any, not sure without spending too much time looking) of the beguilers spells qualify for sneak attack (although many illusions might under the right circumstances). Other than sneak attack there is absolutely no reason to take the AT prc. It just isn't one of the beguilers strengths.

Straight beguiler is superior as are several other prcs.

Ah! I totally missed the SA req at the bottom of the SRD reqs on Arcane Trickster - though I suspected I was missing something like that. Ah well. Thanks!

AT gives nothing to the Beguiler, and most importantly, it takes away 2 skill points per level. If you really want to get it for the SA, the Assassin Stance stance from Tome of Battle gives out 2d6 sneak attack if you can get it.

::cries::

It's still in the mail! Hopefully I'll get it today!

Honestly, though, my original idea for a character for this campaign was a Rogue / Theif Acrobat / Dungeon Delver to be a crazy skill monkey...so I asked for the fighter feat variant of rogue, since sneak attack wasn't going to figure into my build, really. And the guy said it looked like I wanted to play a monk, so he suggested a 20 Monk build instead...because he's not sure about allowing Thief Acrobat or Dungone Delver....

So yeah, I'm not positive about being able use anything from Tome of Battle. Much as I'm looking forward to perusing the book!
