Although it has a lowly 1d4 damage, the light pick has the interesting distinction of being the best criting weapon around with it's 18-20 crit range and it's x4 crit damage multiplier. But for some reason it doesn't get as much love as other weapons that pack a lot of critting power, but if you can tack on a lot of bonuses to damage that get multiplied when you crit, the light pick can do some very fun damage, especially if you dual-wield a pair of them. The only problem is you can't power attack with it :(

Assuming 16 Str, 16 Int, decent wisdom and a pair of +2 light picks at 8th level (not too hard to do) you could do the following:

1st Swashbuckler (two-weapon fighting)
2nd Swashbuckler
3rd Swashbuckler (int to damage)
4th Fighter (power critical)
5th Fighter
6th Fighter (improved two-weapon fighting)
7th Fighter (weapon specilization, light pick)
8th Psi-warrior (improved critical and psionic power prescience, offense for +2 damage)

So you'd have a crit range of 15-20 and +4 to confirm crits
and you'd do damage of 1d4+12 with prescience, offense on your main hand and 1d4+10 on your offhand. That means you could theoretically deal 240 damage with a full attack at level 8, not too bad for a light weapon. And this also works fairly well with weapon finesse builds...

And that's without doing anything especially cheesey and doing everything legally (I think). Any other ideas of how to play with this?

Where do you get the 18-20 crit range? In my SRD it is only 20...

My PHB, checked the errata and didn't see anything mentioned there...

The Light Pick is listed just below the Kukri. Could be a ossible misprint, go to d20.org (http://www.d20.org) and check the latest updated free 3.5 SRD.

Too bad it's only 20/x4.

I don't care if the weapon was 1d2 Medium-sized damage, with an 18-20/x4 crit it would be insanely powerful.
*doh*
Think I misread my PHB. Oh well :(

A Light Pick still has it's uses though, despite it's somewhat lackluster stats. It makes a great Coup de Gras weapon for a charecter that fights with a Rapier or a similar weapon normally.

Why not use a Warpick instead? ;)

Because for a PC specializing in light weapons, a Light Pick is far more accessable. Besides, on a similar vein, why not use a Scythe?
