I'm new to this board, and I'm hoping this is where it goes, if not, I'm sorry and if there is another thread like this once again I'm sorry and I'll look for it, but on to the question......

I DM all of my games and for the most part they go well but what I have a problem with is that I don't know when to give certain armor and weapons to characters. What I'm saying is I dont want to have them get a powerful weapon too fast or some uber armor, so when would you all think the PCs should get plus modifiers to their weapons (such as + 2 or something) or magical abilities to them. Thanks.

I believe +1/4th levels is about right

items to ac makes combat go slower
items to attack makes combat go faster

When i DM i think it is ok for the players to actually hit the monsters, but its boring when they go down in one hit, so i max the monsters hp. This is far less dangerous than maxing attack/damage

I like that, I do have a problem sometimes with creatures going down in one hit, thanks for the help.

Why don't you try the What's a DM to do? (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=24) forum?
