| BenjCano11-28-03, 02:30 PM | Crazy Dervish Ginsu Madness Build (tm)!! Fighter 4/Swashbuckler 3/Exotic Weapon Master 3/Dervish 10. Race: Human ******* Feat selections: 1) Exotic Weapon Proficiency (double scimitar[from Arms and Equipment]) 1B) Two Weapon-Fighting 1H) Dodge 2B) Weapon Focus (double scimitar) 3) Mobility 4B) Weapon Sepcialization (double scimitar) 5B) Weapon Finesse (cannot apply to double scimitar yes, but just wait). 6) Combat Expertise 7) No feat, but upon taking your 3rd level of Swashbuckler, you receive insightful strike, the ability to use your Int modifier as well as Strength modifier with any light weapon. (doesn't apply to double scimitar yet, but just wait). 8) First level of Dervish. At 8th level the fun begins. Scimitars are treated as a light weapon for you, meaning that Finesse bonus feat and the insightful strike feature kick in big time. The ability to make a full attack as well as a normal move while using the dervish dance is frankly awesome, and Dervish is worth sticking around in for the 10th level ability, which doubles the number of melee attacks you make when using the full attack action (in dervish dance mode or not). Strong feat choices in the higher levels are Greater and Improved Two Weapon Fighting, Improved Critical (double scimitar), and Improved Trip. The exotic weapon master levels are there to give you the flurry of strikes ability (1 extra attack, or 2 when coupled with the thousand cuts ability), trip attack (to allow you to make trips with the double scimitar, when coupled with Improved Trip, ought to help considerably if your opponent tries to leave your threatened square to avoid full attacks). For your final exotic weapon trick, double weapon defense can't hurt at all. If both Improved and Greater TWF are added to this build, at level 20, you get 16 attacks at (before Dexterity, enchancement and other bonuses, but with Weapon Focus): +17/+17/+17/+17/+12/+12/+7/+7/+2/+2 main hand and +17/+17/+12/+12/+7/+7 off hand, critting on a roll of 15-20, adding both Intelligence and Strength to your damage rolls. When using your dervish dance, you can make your full move and full attack, and gain a bonus of +5 to hit and damage, and the benefit of Cleave and Great Cleave. What do you think, sirs? That's crazy ginsu knife action there! Edit: C&P error, fixed some spelling. |
| Wizu11-28-03, 03:18 PM | If this is legal, add in the antropomorphic giant squid and you end with two levels less of dervish, but gain a helluva lot of attacks at 20th level. Just use normal scrimitals for thisone. (Feral could be added in too, for the added hairyness, and 2HD benefits, tho it would kill the dervish level 8 ability.) +17/+17/+17/+17/+12/+12/+7/+7/+2/+2 main hand and with your seven other hands each get +17/+17/+12/+12/+7/+7 off hand, critting on a roll of 15-20, adding both Intelligence and Strength to your damage rolls. Just remember to buy an amulet that lets you breathe air, or get your lungs polymorphed. Join the desert raiders. With all of your 52 attacks. Remember to bring nachos! Edited: Works with the two bladed scimitar! |
| newblar3211-28-03, 03:55 PM | a better way to use exotic weapon master (EWM) would be to use any exotic light slashing weapon and take the twin exotic weapon fighting to reduce your two weapon fighting penalties by -1. | BenjCano11-28-03, 04:15 PM | Originally posted by newblar32 Elven Lightblade has the exact same stats as a scimitar except it's a light weapon And a piercing weapon, thereby defeating the entire point of adding Dervish. |
| newblar3211-28-03, 04:46 PM | oops my bad i musta looked off the dwarven axebuckler meh still substitute in any slashing weapon |
| Kwyn11-28-03, 05:39 PM | You'd need DM approval to house rule that the Dervish special ability extends to Double Scimitar and not just Scimitar. They're different weapons. |
| Loki59411-28-03, 06:07 PM | What book is dervish from? and what is SB? |
| jtgalt11-28-03, 07:17 PM | SB == SwashBuckler == New 20level base class in Complete Warrior Dervish == PrC in Complete Warrior |
| catharz11-28-03, 07:51 PM | If the Double scimitar is a light exotic weapon for you, why not take the ability that lets you add twice your Str mod while wielding it two-handed (which you will always be doing :smirk:)? |
| BenjCano11-29-03, 01:57 PM | :bump: Anyone else? |
| Robert N.11-29-03, 02:16 PM | well... You could make both sides brilliant energy (red of course) and get a helm painted in black/red cammo, and wear a black cloak... -Robert |
| Arafelis11-29-03, 03:33 PM | Haven't got the Complete Warrior yet (bleh), but a couple notes- Insightful Strike works with unarmed strikes and simple weapons of your size, which may be a typo but I hope not (otherwise you can't use insightful strike with a quarterstaff). Essentially, that means any simple weapons which are made for your size, whether they are light, one-handed, or two-handed. But simple. Two-Handed Weapons are weapons which have one striking surface. Wielding a double weapon counts as wielding a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. If you choose to forgo your TWH attacks, you can treat it as a two-handed weapon. C'mon, people, all this is in the Equipment chapter (page 113, under 'double weapons'). Specifically, to forestall the inevitable, "But it's marked as two-handed and the Two-Handed Melee Weapons block SAYS", it works like this: If you choose to use a two-handed weapon as a double weapon, you are treated as fighting with two weapons, one of which is one-handed and one of which is light. You are not treated as fighting with a two-handed weapon, although the weapon size is accounted for by disarm attempts, etc. When your attack ends, it reverts to counting as a two-handed weapon (so, for instance, if you Power Attack on your turn and don't use the Double Strike feat from Miniatures Hanbook [I think], you get x1.5 damage on AoOs). Finally: Why isn't anyone using the Kensai alt. fighter on this build? |
| BenjCano11-29-03, 03:49 PM | Thanks for your excellent questions and observations, Arafelis. Originally posted by Arafelis Insightful Strike works with unarmed strikes and simple weapons of your size, which may be a typo but I hope not (otherwise you can't use insightful strike with a quarterstaff). Essentially, that means any simple weapons which are made for your size, whether they are light, one-handed, or two-handed. But simple. The insightful strike ability here is a class ability of the Swashbuckler, a 20 level base class in CW. It is the ability to use your Int modifier as well as your Str modifier on all weapon damage rolls made with a light or finessable weapon (spiked chain, rapier, etc.). Since the Dervish gains the ability to treat scimitars as light weapons, this synergizes well together. Since quarterstaffs aren't finessable, they can't be used in insightful strike. Originally posted by Arafelis Finally: Why isn't anyone using the Kensai alt. fighter on this build? Because it just plain slipped my mind, honestly. But using the kensai base class would net you: one more feat and +1 to hit/damage with the double scimitar. Not a bad trade off for losing heavy armor proficiencies, which this build can't use anyway. Thanks for mentioning it! |
| Arafelis11-29-03, 04:12 PM | Whoops! My bad. I mixed up Intuitive Attack (BoED) and Insightful Strike. |
| WillieStyle11-29-03, 09:26 PM | Finally: Why isn't anyone using the Kensai alt. fighter on this build? Where's the Kensai alt. fighter? |
