Best 2nd & 4th level spells? [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-29-05, 08:34 AM I'm looking at playing a Recaster (RoE) and as such I will get to add to my spellbook a 2nd and 4th level spell from any class in the game (either could also be lower level as well). So what do you think are the best spells? The character will be a stand-back wizzy mostly blasting and debuffing the bad guys, not attempting to melee much if at all (Divine Power still looks pretty tasty though). Pretty much anything from WOTC or Dragon is allowable although I personally try to avoid anything from FR.

So far my thoughts are:
2nd - Wave of Grief
4th - ?

05-29-05, 11:42 AM I only have the 3.0 books but I'm sure some of these are the same. These are the one's I'd look at:

2- invisibility, blindness/deafness, barkskin, summon swarm, melf's acid arrow, creeping cold (MotW), ice knife (TaB), wither limb (BoVD), dance of ruin (BoVD)

4-reincarnation, cure critical wounds, rusting grasp, wall of fire, wall of ice, polymorph other/self, improved invisibility, sonic orb (TaB), otiluke's dispelling screen (TaB), stop heart (BoVD), grim revenge (BoVD)

05-29-05, 01:30 PM if you have access to Dragonlance CS, then the best blasty spells are shocking spark(2) and Dalamar's Lance (4)

05-29-05, 03:47 PM 2nd: It's hard to beat the Bard's Suggestion at this level, unless you take the Cleric's Silence.

4th: Holy Smite will turn some heads, and let you make items with the Holy special ability. (Unholy Blight will turn certain other heads, of course... :) )

Lesser Planar Ally will get you into Thaumaturgist, which is nice if you like summoning stuff.
