| friendlyfire51512-03-04, 12:30 AM | I want to try playing an abjurer, I think they can be really powerful. I'll be starting her at around 8th level, and will likely go up to the late teens. The character so far: Elf Abjurer 6/Geometer 3/Initiate of the 7 veils 7/Abjurer 4 Abilities: Int, Con, Dex, Char, Wis, Str Skills: PrC requirements + Concentration, spellcraft maxed out. Other than that, no idea. Feats: Skill focus: spell craft, Spell focus/greater spell focus, Spell Mastery(take 10 on dispell checks), Item Familiar. Excluded schools: Evocation and Necromancy? Any ideas are welcome. I want Geometer for the cheaper spellbook(100gp for any spell), so she can have literally every spell in it. Initiate is the point of being an abjurer, it just looks so powerful. The item familiar can be heavilly warded with all those protective spells, and gets my spellcraft up to ludicrous levels. A ring of protection +1 would be perfect. :) |
| Mirikon12-03-04, 12:31 AM | Like what you did there. Maybe just tweak it a bit, though: Abjurer 6/Geometer 3/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil 7/Abjurer 1/Fatespinner 3 |
| Eyeless Blond12-03-04, 12:56 AM | Why the level of abjurer in the middle there though? Try to stick in archmage or loremaster or something; level 7 of abjurer is kinda a dead level. |
| Blue2312-05-04, 02:45 PM | Somewhat OT, can someone tell my why all of the Sevenfold Veil builds I see here are prefixed with three levels of Geometer? Is it just because it's a no-add'l-feat early PrC from wizard 6? The abilities don't seem to be the cause. Cheers, =Blue(23) |
| wdarkk12-05-04, 03:46 PM | That is correct. Oh, and the UA Abjurer stuff is pretty great. I'd recommend buying EVERY item that can increase your caster level - Ioun Stone, that Ring in the CA, and anything else I haven't thought of. I'd also recommend Archmage 3 or so, for Elements, Spell Power (caster level very important, unless you're disjunctioning), and something else. [Edit] Mastery of Counterspelling! |
| friendlyfire51512-06-04, 01:00 PM | Great advice, thanks! I completely forgot about achmage spell power. I really only want the first 2 levels of geometer, becase at level 2 I can start buying spells for 100gp no matter their level! I'm jumping into a friend's long-running campaign(3years or so..), starting lvl16. So maybe something like this: <Gold Elf> "Veiled Geometric Arch-mage". :) Abj 6/Geom 3/ISFV 7/Archmage 4 Excluded schools: Nec/Ench Feats: 1st- Skill focus: spell craft 3rd- Item Familiar 5th- Spell focus(abj) 6th- greater spell focus(abj) 9th- Spell Mastery(take 10 on dispel checks) 12th- Spell Penetration 15th-Spell focus(evo; to qualify for archmage) 18th- Greater Spell Penetratio Archmage Abilities: 1st- Mastery of Counterspelling 2nd-4th - Spell Power Important Items: Robe of the Archmagi Gem of Seeing Cloak of Protection +5 Gloves of Dexterity +6 Belt of Health +6 Ring of Wizardry III (for counterspells) Ring of Counterspells Rod of Quickening(minor) Lots of scrolls and wands... Any thoughts on good mag. items/spells? |
| Maruuk12-06-04, 02:06 PM | Two comments, first of all you cant take spell focus abjuration at level 5, thats reserved for an item creation or metamagic feat. Second, I don't really get all this geometre hype, any wizard worth their salt will get their hands on a boccob's blessed book which has a truckload of pages and requires NO material cost for scribing into it, let alone 100 gp per spell. Alternatively, the wild mage/practiced spellcaster combo is neat, though i don't think you've got the feats for it... But i'd take another semi-useless class instead :) If you go for wild mage, maybe switch to human. i like throwing human paragon 3 in there, good hp and a feat and +2 int, and you gain your caster level back with practiced spelllcaster since wild mage only costs you 3 caster levels. So something like Abjur 5/Wild mage 1/HP 3/Initiate 7/Arch4 Feats: 1st Skill focus: spellcraft, magical aptitude 3rd - Item familiar 5th - some metamagic feat, fortify spell for abjuration purposes maybe 6th - practiced spellcaster 8th - spell focus: abj (from human paragon) 9th - grater spell focus: abj 12 - spell mastery 15 - spell focus evo 18 - spell penetration You dont really need great spell pen, since with wild mage and practiced spellcaster you are adding 1d6 to your caster level for every spell. |
| Maruuk12-06-04, 02:18 PM | Another good idea for an abjurer, use the spell imbue familiar with spell ability. Give your familiar a bunch of dispel magic spells (up to 5 at high level) and have them go to town readying actions against enemy spellcasters. This is a great way to double up your spellcasting ability and make it fun for you without having to sit around dispelling all day. |
| friendlyfire51512-09-04, 12:43 AM | Boccob's is AWSOME! I'll definitely buy a few of those. To replace geometer, I've discovered Divine Oracle. My DM probably won't go for the wild mage combo, anyways. So here's a redo: Shalindria <Human> "Veiled Oracular Arch-mage". Abj 5/DO 4/ISFV 7/Archmage 4 Excluded schools: Necromancy, Enchantment Feats: 1st- Skill Focus: spell craft 1st- Skill Focus: religion 3rd- Spell Focus(abj) 5th- Quicken Spell 6th- Greater Spell Focus(abj) 9th- Item Familiar 12th- Quickdraw 15th-Spell focus(div; to qualify for archmage and fits in with Oracle) 18th- Spell Mastery(take 10 on dispel checks) Archmage Abilities: 1st- Mastery of Counterspelling 2nd-4th - Spell Power Important Items: Headband of Intellect +6(Familiar) Bag of Holding/Hewards Handy Haversack Robe of the Archmagi Gem of Seeing Spell power Ion Stone Cloak of Protection +5 Gloves of Dexterity +6 Belt of Health +6 Ring of Wizardry III (for counterspells) Ring of X-ray Vision Rod of Quickening(minor) Rod of Extending(major) Some sort of scrying device Lots of scrolls and wands... Using some of the extra XP from my familiar to buy Permanent "Tongues" and "Detect Magic". I'll be counterspelling or veiling enemy spellcasters, which should be easy with my high spell power, spell mastery, and mastery of counterspelling abilities. Probably keep a contingency of greater dispell magic going(trigger: hostile spell targeting me). The gem and xray vision seem like a good combo. Rod of Quickening is for dispel magic, Rod of extending for casting summon monster spells before a fight. I'll quickdraw wands/scrolls in battle for situational spells I don't have memorized. I plan to use walls a lot, backed up by illusions(of more walls/cloudkills/etc) to control the battlefield. I'll always have my dex bonus to AC, so the gloves are a must. Not sure about familiar powers yet. Maybe just up it's stats and buy some good intelligent item abilities? |
| wdarkk12-09-04, 03:03 AM | I think it's nice that people are taking all 7 levels of the Initiate in these builds. It makes me feel WotC designed it well. |
| xerofire12-09-04, 04:41 AM | Boccob's is AWSOME! Not sure about familiar powers yet. Maybe just up it's stats and buy some good intelligent item abilities? Sub in a level of monk get your hands enchanted with skillful sure striking and wear gloves of balance fighting from sowrd and fist, wear a monk belt, and have your item familiar be your monk tatoo.. hehehehehehe. makes your familiar cool, it would be a tatoo of a dragon that moves around your body as it gets more sentient. Just increase its sapience and senses (blind sense is cool) and have it cast level 0 druid spells. and invest a spell slot, its worth it. And yes Boccob's book IS in fact Awe-some, because all wizards should be in AWE of the saving this item allows. Challenge wizards to nonlethal spell duels where winner gets to copy a spell from the losers book. Its one of the most fun things to do when leveling up a wizard, every few levels challenge your DM to a spell duel to see if you can earn free spells!.... and possibly have your fellow PC's help you rig the event in your favor to get the other players in on the action! But yeah, monk 1 + enlarge person + monk items + skillful surestriking +5(GMW) hands = way more front line protection instantly. Gain AC, movement, more AC, good damage, reach, respect from your party fighter when you polymorph into a war troll and can beat things down while quicken dispelling enemy magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROAR!!!!!! |
