I am going for a chr. dex. kind of guy. The dm is giving us 70 points in stats i.e. i could have two 16 two 14 and a 10. the starting level is one but I'm wondering if you go to around lvl 20.

Books allowed? Have you checked the FAQ (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=207643)? There are links to a couple good rogue threads there.

You say "assassin/rogue" (well, that's what you meant to say). But beyond that, what do you mean? Is this an evil campaign? Are you meant to be a skills guy or a sneak attacker or both? Do you care about a death attack? What's the rest of the group like?

Rogue3/Ranger2/Assassin10/DarkHunter5 does an OK job as a death attacker (which isn't a very good tactic, but hey ...) BAB 16, Sneak +8d6, 15 levels of death attack, HiPS, etc.

There are plenty of options — Bayushi Deceiver/Swashbuckler, NightsongEnforcer, Telflammar Shadowlord/Horizon Walker, but more details would help.

That's a 70 point buy? Strange. I guess everypoint can go anywhere and buying an 18 costs only 18 points. Usually I would polariez alot. 18, 18, 18, 8, 8, 10... you know that's perfect barbarian/fighter stats. Perhaps a combat rogue would go with an 18 in strength or dex... and 16/14/14/10/10. Idk wouldn't play a rogue with that weird point buy that favors polarized characters.

:) My advice is this :)
str 10
dex 18
con 3
Int 10
wis 14
Cha 18

You look at the con of 3 and go WHAT but honest it works. With your conections you just need to find a shadow and get turned really fast. :)
Then you work for your group a while. And get gloves of something. Can't remember there names but they mold to your skin get them ghost touched. And your good to go. Yes you might spend some money on ghost touch items but you will be a really cool assassin and thief. Able to get into a lot of places. Have your wizard friend take craft wonderous. And with some help you have a really cool character. If that doesn't fly with the dm and if he is letting you be evil I see no reason it shouldn't go for the ghost classes out of ghost walk. Cause 70 points of stats isn't a lot :) But hey that's what the 3 is for :) So that you only lose 3 points when you become a shadow. Talk your dm into letting you apply your str with the ghost touch gloves. But most of your damage should come from level draining and sneak attack damage.

If it's a 70 point buy then have your con as low as possible which for a point buy is 8 and spend the rest around with str and say wisdom at the middle two numbers. And you will do fine. It's a little less important in this case to get turned to a shadow as fast. But that's your best way. GO undead abuse the loss of con :)

Since Assassins have a great spell list, I would suggest mixing in some Dragon Disciple for additional spells.

An NPC assassin (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5521069&postcount=5) in a game I run. (She is Challenge Rating/ECL 22! So you'll need to trim a level or two off for a 20th level build. Also, be sure to check the link to the original build/thread that she was based off of.)
