the question for the day is what in your opinion is the best way to start off a build to set up for a pyrokineticist?

right now i myself am going to be entering a campaign where i'd very much like to be a psionic character with levels in pyrokineticist but please understand that although i'll be taking things from this topic under consideration for my own build it is not the purpose, the purpose for this thread is to see what peoples opinions are about this class

i'll start off, i think i'd have to say soulknife is a pretty good base class for the pyro, especially if you go the twf route so you can have your mindblade afire for that extra oomp and the fire bolts are key to weakening the enemies before they get to you i think. plus having the mindblade without the pyro support is pretty strong on it's own. that's one aspect you have to think of since many enemies (an unfortunately high number of enemies) are resistant to fire.

don't be afraid to give your wackiest ideas no matter how unoptimized they are, a little humor never hurt anyone, not even those of us that frequent these boards

i would rather try this:

Gnome
Bard 1/ Wizard(illusionist with racial Sub lvls) 5/ Pyrokineticist 4/Sacred Chord 2/ Shadowcraft mage 5/ Shadowcrafter 3

get 9th lvl spells
great spells

Pyrokineticist 4 gives an at will 4d6 ranged touch attack, also a 2d6 Weapon/hand Afire ability, and a Whip of Flame(bard 1 gives Whip proficency)
the use would be to save spells and attack with fire bolts....

another way to use it.....well that seems to be the main use for it....an at will ranged touch Attack, and a Weapon Afire ability

Soulknife would gain a lot from it, but i dont think it is the best class for it...

Soulknife is a good one--for flavor and for some tricks, but I think the best single class to base off of is PsyRogue--from Mind's Eye. You get some psionic powers, and you get sneak attack damage--one of the few class abilities that can further enhance the fire bolt ability and even the weapon aflame ability. Just psyrogue and pyro can net you a really high damage firebolt--and with powers that help you be sneaky--you should be able to use the sneak attack often. Biggest negative--3/4 BAB.

what about a rogue pyro build, i imagine that could be pretty powerful maxing out a bunch of cha based skills and having one powerful sneak attack using the bolt of fire.

come on people does anyone have any ideas?

I like monk based pyrokineticists, because as a monk you already get a large number of attacks, and good base damage. Add on the extra damage from hand afire onto each one, and you've got a pretty good damage potential. Of course, there is a major alignment conflict, but I drop most of those in games I DM, and there are ways around it (use Shou Disciple instead of monk, or one of the other elemental variants that have different alignment restrictions).

Something like Monk6/ShouDisciple5/Pyrokineticist8/X1 with all the two weapon fighting feats and Weapon Finesse would be good I think. You'd get 3 monk bonus feats, greater flurry of blows with any weapon, 2d6 base unarmed damage (up to 2d10 w/monk's belt and tattoo) and 9 attacks on a full attack.
