| gradea06-21-06, 06:55 PM | Couldn't find a thread on this so I thought I would ask. What do you all think are the best buff spells? By catagory of what they improve (Stats, Damage, Defense, Misc) Stats Bulls Strength (And the other +4 to ability X spells) Divine Favor (self only) Divine Power (also self only) Misc True strike is a good combo with an all out power attack. Bless/Prayer comes in handy Defense Mage Armor and Shield (Which give a level 1 mage the protection of Plate Mail) Endure/Resist/Protection from elements |
| Vorlir06-21-06, 07:23 PM | haste - wiz 3 very handy spell. In my game that I run a sorceror was mulling over his options for a 3rd level spell, he wanted a buff spell, and about 3 of us said "haste". mass conviction and mass aid are both excellent buff spells-cleric 3 |
| Tleilaxu_Ghola06-21-06, 07:45 PM | Oh my... where to even begin? If you're willing to put a little leg-work into this thread, a good place to look would be the "ultimate gish contest" thread which is still stickied on the Optimization Challenge board. There are so many buff spells used there it's crazy. Suffice it to say that if you buy the spell compendium, you'll have all the buff spells you ever could desire. |
| RD_Imperialist06-21-06, 08:07 PM | Shapechange and polymorph own all other buffs. With that said, superior invisibility is extremely good, and necrotic empowerment is interesting, but needs a feat to be used. |
| Talkkno06-21-06, 09:04 PM | Natures avatar is also very good buff spell |
| ninjarabbit06-21-06, 11:08 PM | Alter self is a good one, for a second level spell you're getting fly, barkskin, and disguise self in one package |
| WackyOne06-22-06, 02:50 AM | If for some reason you don't want to polymorph (or to stack the buffs!), the Bite of the WereAnimal spells are nice all around buffs (stats, ac & feats) |
| ChrisAsmadi06-22-06, 02:55 AM | Wraithstrike is pretty good. |
| Tytalus06-22-06, 03:47 AM | There used to be a thread about the "best spells to persist", which should give at least a few ideas. Unfortunately, I don't have the link. --Jan |
| Khazra Reborn06-22-06, 09:31 AM | bite of the werbear for +16str,+8 con & free PA (among other bonuses) Natures avatar for +10 morale bonus to attack/damage is good. The 20D8 temporary HP is huge though! |
| jameswilliamogle06-22-06, 09:40 AM | Wraithstrike is pretty good.2nd'ed. Ridiculously good. Also, Bite of the Wearbear absolutely is nuts; one can Persist both these spells. edit: i see i have only redundant information to add :( i'll close my yap and read instead. |
| monkey306-22-06, 10:31 AM | Greater mighty wallop is so good that all my future melee will be built around it! |
| Sir Gummibaerchen06-22-06, 11:05 AM | Greater Mighty Wallop, Giantsize, Plant Body, Bite of the Werebear, Wraithstrike, Sirine's Grace, Nixie's Grace, Stoneskin, Elemental Body, Skin of the Steel Dragon, Superior Invisibility, Greater Blink, Magic Vestment, Greater Magic Weapon, Armor of Darkness, Energy Immunity, Create Magic Tatoo, Stoneskin, Anticipate Teleportation, Righteous Aura, Greater Visage of the Deity, Holy Transformation, Wild Runner, Freedom of Movement, Energetic Healing, Righteous Fury, Luminous Armor, Girallion's Blessing, Divine Favor, Sign, Conviction, Battlemagic Perception, Superior Resistance, Stormrage, |
| Prominence06-22-06, 11:32 AM | Infernal Transformation, Lesser is the best buff spell in the game. There is absolutely nothing more terrifying than combining it with Divine Power for a massive full BaB beard attack. Yes, beard attack. That said, Righteous Wrath of the Faithful is incredibly strong, but especially so with many natural attacks (such as with a mounted combatant in the party, monstrous race, druid, etc). The +3 attack / Damage is a flat bonus, so it's more damage on your off-hand/natural attacks than, say, +8-10 strength. It also adds a 'haste attack'. |
| Xenephon06-22-06, 05:38 PM | Alter self is a good one, for a second level spell you're getting fly, barkskin, and disguise self in one package Just out of curiousity, how can you get flying via Alter Self unless you start as something other than Humanoid? Xenephon |
| AramilWindwalker06-22-06, 05:41 PM | I believe humanoids can used the "winged elf" or some such |
| Khazra Reborn06-22-06, 05:42 PM | Skin of the Steel Dragon Sounds cool, what does it do? I forgot greater aspect of the deity...though its not great unless you persist it. If you do persist it, isnt it basicly the half celestial template without SLAs for 0 LA? Thats pretty sweet. |
| pyro_cat06-22-06, 05:50 PM | Check my sig for a few more buffs, they might not be the best, but its a list. (The one's compatible with War Weaver). |

| Jian06-22-06, 07:46 PM | Undulant Innards from Lords of Madness isn't too shabby. Grants immunity to SA and crit. hits, minimum damage from falls, and +4 enhancement bonus to saves against poison, paralysis, and disease. |
