| Willie the Duck12-16-04, 08:08 PM | I'm playing a gish. He's only 2 caster levels behind the average CR of our encounters, but we are facing alot of dragons and outsiders (and undead). Thus the save-or-incapacitate spells are of marginal effect (not too many dragons slowed down by web, ray of enfeeblement, or polymorph). So I must ask, what are the best wiz/sorc spells for increasing the combat effectiveness of one's party and/or other spells that gish builds get lots of use out of. I've already made great use of displacement, blink, fly, and haste, but what are others? |

| PhaedrusXY12-16-04, 08:29 PM | Not a buff, but Ray of Exhaustion is a great spell vs. alot of demons and dragons (if you can beat their SR). Even if they save, they're fatigued, which keeps them from being able to Charge. Then you can do a running battle against them and they won't be able to reciprocate very well. Any "strenuous activity" will take them from fatigued to exhausted. I'm not sure what exact activities will take you from fatigued to exhausted, besides prolonged overland hustling and the like, but hitting them with another Ray of Exhaustion automatically takes them from Fatigued to Exhausted.Fatigued: A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued. Exhausted: An exhausted character moves at half speed and takes a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. After 1 hour of complete rest, an exhausted character becomes fatigued. A fatigued character becomes exhausted by doing something else that would normally cause fatigue. |

| MoonWizard12-16-04, 08:50 PM | When you get to be a 9th level caster, Ice Shield (FB) is a wonderful melee buff. |

Seventh level Dwarven Fighter1/Transmuter4(barred school is evocation, using 3.0 rules)/Runesmith1(RoS) Feats include spellcasting prodigy, craft wand, master crafstman (wand), scribe scroll, and some combat feats. Caster level is Five. Most of our stuff is 3.0, but we use newer 3.5 splatbooks. |
| LordArkan12-22-04, 02:35 AM | (if you can beat their SR) Speaking of which, Lower Spell Resistance from Draconomicon is a great spell. |
| FireAge12-22-04, 03:32 AM | Which of course is not as good as Spell Vulnerability from the Planar Handbook p104. Same as lower spell resistance, but one level lower :) |

| JRedGiant12-22-04, 11:14 AM | For your caster level.... Major Resistance gives a +3 resistance bonus to all saves, 1 hour/level, range touch. I believe it's out of Savage Species...there are probably other sources. Luminescent Armor out of BoED gives +4 AC and imposes an additional -4 to hit on any creature that can see you. 1 hour/level, range touch. There's some small ability damage sacrifice, but not until the spell expires. |

Twin and/or Chain Ray of Exhaudtion is a good one. Automatically cause exhaustion in CL+1 people, no save, is probably the most powerful no XP cost 9th level spell available. You don't even need to be a high level mage, get Lesser Metamagic Rods of Chain and Twin spell. Great for a mid level+ gish to start a combat with. Lord Kiwi, |
| sornet12-22-04, 05:57 PM | Isn't Spell Vulnerability limited to outsiders? No, it isn't. From Planar Handbook, pg.104: Target: One creature |
| GRAOUH !!!12-22-04, 06:33 PM | False Life - give yourself fighter hit pointsFalse Life max hp bonus is 1d10 + 10, isn't it ? |
