Well I guess the title says it all. I want to make a list of good builds so I started this tread. I know core books are simple but they are availablea almost ever. Good luck

I strongly suggest that you ask for something more specific. Reading the posting guidelines provided above will help.

Without demonstrating effort on your part towards making a meaningful character, all you'll get is angered responses and Basketweavers

Basketweaving's "Core," too! The perfect fit.

I prefer "Underwater Basketweaving". Nothing beats a savage underwater basketweaver.

Basketweaving is the most powerful skill. If you don't believe me just look at the tarrasque. He's crazy, but he still can't perform a mean basketweaving. Therefore, not even strong creatures can properly basketweaving, making it the sign of true power.

Finally, Jesus used to basketweave in his free time. That large amount of his adolescence missing in the bible is because they just could not express in words how awesome his basketweaving had become.

Does core include the entire SRD? Psionics will really power up the basket-weaving.

Thx for the posts all of you, I didnīt specify any particular choice cause I wanted a thread like the core 3.5 already posted here(thx I havenīt found it so sorry for the "double" post).
I read a lot of those builds and I liked one in particular the Bard 4/Barbarian 4/Dragon Disciple 10/Horizon Walker 2 by Ranthanas but I wonder how can this build work, since to get dragon disciple you need the ability to cast arcane spells without preparation, can anyone explain me?

bards cast arcane spells, without any preparation.

Bards can cast arcane spells without preperation.

Stop telling him to play a basketweaver. That is beyond broken, and wouldn't be fair to the other players.

By core, do you mean: "3.5 PHB, DMG, MM, and the D20 SRD"?

Thats what many often mean by "core"...

And does Core mean only the races in the PHB, or races from anywhere in there?

Do you want this build to be powerful at any particular level? Do you want it to be most powerful at level 20?

What parts of the party is this going to need to do? Which of the main roles are you looking for?

Are you looking for a soloist character?

What does the rest of the party look like?

What sorts of adventures do you think this character is going to have?

Oh boy, indeed. I misread the bard for fighter, sorry for that. By core I mean the basic, the DM, and the player one. Could be a build that starts medium powered but starting dishing damage around 8 and finishes "super strong". I have a party that I am currently playing with, but I wanted a build that could survive alone if needed.
I know I am gonna regret asking, but what is this basketweaver "thing"?

The basketweaver thing is people getting annoyed with you at not being specific enough and then deciding to give you sarcastic responses.

Do you know what the SRD is? it's basically the open source D&D that shows the basic rules of D&D, for free, for anyone who wants to use them... it includes stuff from the MM, PHB, DMG, and the Psionics Handbook... as well as some other stuff that qualifies as core to the game in many situations.

Go check it out at http://www.d20srd.org/

Its a great resource... and is considered by many to be "core"...

And remember...

in D&D, there are generally four basic primary character roles:

Tank
Arcane Caster
Divine Caster
Skills

Now, for this build, which of these do you want to be good at? You can combine some if you want...

Thx for all this info, I didnt know. I would like a tank role, cause I am a lit bit tired of being physically weak(from other PC rpg experiences), I know there is no uber build, even more with just the core as option, but I wanted to know a few builds to use since I am started playing D&D recently.
Gavinfoxx

02-23-06, 08:16 PM
Than how about a dwarf cleric or druid? Those, done right, give you primary divine casting and the ability to tank. They are also potentially some of the most powerful in core.

Actually, in theory the Basketweaver could be pretty powerful. If you max out Sleight of Hand, Bluff, Diplomacy, and of course: Craft (basketweaving), then take a few levels in Wizard/sorcerer to get Maximise Spell and explosive runes, then use maximised explosive runes on every strip used to make the basket, you could cause quite a bit of damage. Take a level of Archmage to get Mastery of Elements and you can even make specified baskets o' doom.

Seriously, it's been floating about the boards for months, if not years, sooner or later someone's bound to put some thought into it, even Bunny has been incarnated into a creature!

For Core tank builds, try the following:
Half-Blue (or Bronze) Dragon Human Ranger 3/Barb 2/Horizon Walker 7/whatever 8
This build gives you Immunity to Lightning, Fire Resist/20, Cold Resist/20 and a bunch of other subtle bonuses (like skill points, lots of them).

Fighter 4/Sorc 1/Dragon Disciple 10/HWx
Huge hps, huge stat boosts, and if the spells are chosen right, no problems in armour (True Strike has no somatic component). Also can grant you the same immunity and resistances as the above build, but at a much later date. Not as many skill points though.

Fighter/Dwarven Defender with a bow makes you a static turret of PAIN. Lots and lots of PAIN...

Heh, Fighter/Dwarven Defender With Bows of wounding are fun. Take the rapid shot feat and take away a point of con per hit.... mmmmm...

Wonderful for taking out spellcasters who don't normally max out their con. Like wizards. Or even better, take out a frenzied berserker. Just drop his con so he doesn't rage/frenzy as long (deathless frenzy that!!!). But since this is core, you would only use this on regular barbs. Don't expect it to take out basket weavers though... the horror....

Hmm... I didn't realise that Wounding can be put on a bow... The Evil Thoughts are circulating... :D

Err...should I post my Basket-War-Weaver now, or later? Later, when I toss out my FR-specific Shadow Weave Basketeer.

It can be a joint project, pulling together the disparate strands of Basketweavery into a single, sturdy, semi-hemispherical mesh to hold our hopes and dreams.

That build is Epic.

You should post a nonepic version of that.

Being a half dragon puts you 3 levels behind everyone else... that's three fewer hit dice, three fewer progression of the BAB, three fewer levels...

If you're counting Core as the SRD, then LA buyoff is available. If not, then yes, that build is Epic.

Hum... Which spells should I choose for the Fighter 4/Sorc 1/Dragon Disciple 10/HWx ? ( I thought about using bard and his UMD skill to use scrolls instead, this way I could use even level 9 spells(ok with some luck hehe))

I hate to bog-down the Bog-Down thread, but I can't find Level Adjustment anywhere on the official System Reference Document page (the one published by WotC).

Level Adjustment cost is on the D20.org page, but note the following from that site:

Additional Material
I have included some additional material that is not part of the official SRD. This material consists of the Variant Rules section (open content from Unearthed Arcana) and the Razor Boar and Scorpionfolk monster entries.

So level adjustment is surely not core, as it's not in either the core printed books nor the Wizards System Reference Document.
