| Pigione12-20-03, 03:59 AM | Hi all. So, we are going to start a new campaign in the Ravenloft world (well actually we'll start outside it and then sent to). We can make anything we want. The only guidelines are: - 4th lvl - not evil - Every official book, except Draconomic and Complete Warrior (nobody has them among us) - If using OA, builds must be completely from OA, no mixing so (but FR can mix regulars books) - I rolled this stats: 17 - 16 - 16 -15 - 14 - 11 (well yes, pretty high, but we rolled 3 columns and keep the best result from each one) - Other party memebers will be: 1 Cleric, 1 Barbarian, 1 (has not decided yet) What a character to do? I thought about a monk, thanks to the good stats, but i'll accept any build. I'm just less inclined to a wiz build, because we are going to receive low XP so being stucked for months at throwing a couple of spells per day would be quite annoying. No paladins too, they are just toasted in Ravenloft. Ok, you can start now.... :D Thank you! |
| Ambrosious12-20-03, 04:27 AM | The problem facing Ravenloft characters isn't something sucking out their life or zombifying them, it's never participating in a fight in the first place. Get those Ravenloft saving throws as high as you can, as quick as you can: -Pick a class with good Will saves. -Take Iron Will as soon as you can get it. -Consider taking a level in Barbarian. They're more resistent to Fear/Horror checks while raging. -Look at the campaign-specific feats that give bonuses to Fear/Horror/Madness checks. -Find non-Paladin classes or PrCs that become immune to fear effects. I know this isn't specific character-build advice, but you'll want to consider this stuff from the get-go. |

| Robert N.12-20-03, 01:06 PM | Every official book, except Draconomic and Complete Warrior? Sounds like you need to be a Kender! As per the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (and published on the web on the WotC Website (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20030713a) ) Kender Racial Traits +2 Dexterity, -2 Strength, -2 Wisdom: Quick and agile, the small and wiry kender are built for nimbleness rather than brute strength. Driven by insatiable curiosity, kender lack the ability to think things through or to consider the consequences of their actions. Small: As Small creatures, kender gain a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but they must use smaller weapons than humans use, and their lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of Medium characters. Kender base land speed is 20 feet. +1 racial bonus to all saving throws: Perhaps due to their eternal optimism and their inherent belief in the goodness of all people, kender manage to survive and thrive in a world that is often hostile to them. +2 racial bonus on Spot checks: Kender have remarkable eyesight. +2 racial bonus on Open Locks and Sleight of Hand checks: All kender have an instinctive curiosity when it comes to finding out what lies behind closed doors and inside pockets and pouches. Kender can use these two abilities as though they were trained, even if they have 0 ranks in the skills. Lack of focus:Kender have a -4 racial penalty on Concentration checks. Kender don't necessarily lack magical talent, but their general lack of focus discourages them from pursuing careers in magic. Taunt: Kender have an uncanny insight into the motivations and characteristics of other races. They can use this insight to unleash a verbal barrage of sarcasm, insults, and crude comments that cause the targeted victims to lose their temper. Kender receive a +4 racial bonus on all Bluff checks used to taunt someone. Fearlessness: Kender are immune to fear, magical and otherwise. Automatic languages: Kenderspeak and Common. Bonus languages: Dwarven, Ergot, Elven, Goblin, and Solamnic. Favored class: Rogue. -- It's exactly what Ravenloft needs! :D The purity and innocence of a ever-cheerful Kender! -Robert |
| Super Grover12-20-03, 07:25 PM | ravenloft distorts class and race abilities . so immunity to fear will only give you a plus 4 bonus to it saves are importent in ravenloft may want to go monk cleric in to sacred fist to get the mystisim presteg gomain to get cha bonus to saves. that is a minimum level of 6 befor you can qualify though. sure there are better ways to get the bonus to saves. in the end its not how powerful you are just have fun. |
| atnoon12-20-03, 07:41 PM | If you are going to play 3.5 consider a ranger with favored enemy undead. The bonus on damage and skills will come in hand in most domains. Do you know in which domain your party will be spending most of their time? |
