| Atraeyu01-03-07, 08:58 PM | i FINALLY have access to all the books. any. this DM actually promotes those little loop holes in the rules. in other words power gaming or preferably "min/max"ing is smiled upon. im thinking about some sort of druid or maybe a psionic character. so please post the strongest build youve got, not limited to that druid/psion suggestion. anything. other than pun-pun...lol. as long as it follows the rules, any kind of unimaginable power works. thanks. :P :D |
| PhaedrusXY01-03-07, 09:15 PM | I'd suggest looking around in the Optimization Library, and the "Handy Links for CO Work" thread, and see if you can find the "Campaign Smashers" thread. (I'm sure that's in Handy Links). The last one in particular has some of the most powerful builds collected from the boards. As far as craziness, this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6516671) is probably the most powerful thing I've made. But it wouldn't be all that useable as a real character, I don't think. The cleric in that thread might be, though. And the Shepared, Saint, and Sinner build would probably be playable, and very powerful. You're also welcome to look around in my sig. I have links to alot of stuff I've made in there. Some of it would be fairly powerful (but I don't think any is really totally insane... at least not by my standards :D ). |
| Adolph_Kheebler01-03-07, 09:31 PM | My current character is pretty bad. However the utter brokenness cannot be achieved before 12th level. You must play an evil character to make it work. You start with either a wizard/sorcerer/wu jen etc. Pick a base arcane casting class you like. I did it with a sorcerer. As soon as you can make him a lich. That would be level 11. After he is a lich take levels in Tainted Scholar from Heroes of Horror. It is important that you wait until after you are undead to take levels in the class even though you could meet the prerequisites earlier. Undead are immune to all negative effects of taint. If you do this when you aren't undead you will quickly wind up insane/dead. Tainted Scholars switch their casting stat to their taint. They calculate bonus spells with a stat of depravity+10 and save dc's at 10+1/2 corruption+spell level. The ability to get near infinite bonus spells is built into the class. It says that all spells you cast gain the evil descriptor and that every time you cast an evil spell to make a will save or increase your depravity by 1. Just don't resist allowing your depravity to increase and watch it grow. Now normally the way this class balances is that your save dc's will suck and won't increase. However there is a way around this. At some point in your progression take leadership. Make your cohort or one of your followers a vampire. Give him a feat out of Heroes of Horror called Touch of Taint. This allows the vampire's bite to also deliver 1 point of corruption. Nowhere does it say that if you are immune to the level drain effect you are immune to the corruption increase. Therefore you have your vampire buddy bite you over and over and over and watch your corruption grow. Now this does get you arbitrarily large spellcasting which no sane dm will allow. You need to convince him to just impose a cap on it (mine set my cap to charisma score + 2x tainted scholar level). Allow this to happen and just watch as you are still absolutely obscene. I currently have a bonus spells as per an ability of 90 and save dc's at 50+spell level. |
| Atraeyu01-03-07, 10:09 PM | that elite optimization challenge is CRAZY. thats helpful but its very confusing for one and i dont really have 2 hours to buff myself before each fight either, heh. no evil characters, sorry. i am going for somehting very powerful but not excessively complicated or unplayable(like having to buff for hours and using most or all of my abilities for one fight) thanks guys, this is actually a lot of fun just looking around. ive never been too far out of the core-only game. but dont let that hinder the amount of non core stuff you add ;) :D |
| Rashomon01-03-07, 10:11 PM | Druid 20. |
| Fallenangel35901-03-07, 10:23 PM | Corrupted wartroll savage species progression, with diehard. You are 100% unkillable via damage, and can't be knocked out, due to diehard. |
| Atraeyu01-03-07, 10:58 PM | king of smack and HIVE seem applicable and slightly more simple. can someone explain these and how exactly, by the rules, thier immense power is possible. there are just loads of revisions and abilities and references that im unfamiliar with. |
| Animae_Draconum01-03-07, 11:59 PM | HIVE is evil, just a reminder the PrC is in Book of Vile Darkness. Play a Planar Shepherd. |
| Edea01-04-07, 02:00 AM | I second the Planar Shepherd motion. |
| Rashomon01-04-07, 03:59 AM | I second the Planar Shepherd motion. Druid 20 falls before Druid 10 Planar Shepherd 10. |
| GraveDigger01-04-07, 10:19 AM | Pending on how much money you have it is possible to buy ALLOT of tomes of clear thought to boost your spell caster main attribute to an insane level. Such as the following. 30 Tomes of clear v (+5 charisma 137,000 each) will give a +150 to your charisma. Lets say your best score before racial is 18. That is 168 charisma, I would take Mainly Sorcerer build with 2 levels of paladin for the divine grace ability. Thats a +79 to each of your saves and a saving throw of 10+79+spell level to save. Granted this will be different depending on how much money you have available to you. Also I might suggest dipping into Hexblade enough levels to get Mettle or even 1 level of pious templar to get mettle which allows you to negate a spell effect if it allows a will/fort save to reduce the effects. Then all you will need is evasion and BAMF! You evade area effect damage Enchantments and death effects will get shrugged off like they were nothing. I hope that this helps you in some way :). |
| CannibalSmith01-04-07, 10:40 AM | Bonuses from tomes don't stack. |
| GraveDigger01-04-07, 10:46 AM | Does it state that in the book or is there an errata somewhere about that? |
| Vorlir01-04-07, 11:01 AM | books provide inherent bonuses and somewhere in the book it states you can have a max of +5 inherent bonus. |
| GraveDigger01-04-07, 11:04 AM | ahh well that changes allot of things. Allright I'm off to find another way to get my extreamly high charisma. Sorry about high jacking the thread. |
| NineInchNall01-04-07, 12:16 PM | Druid 20 falls before Druid 10 Planar Shepherd 10. And we have a new, undisputed, heavyweight champion of character builds! |
| ksbsnowowl01-04-07, 12:30 PM | Play a Legion Devil Crusader (Fiendish Codex 2 and Tome of Battle). Take the Leadership feat. Get a Legion Devil cohort. Get lots of Legion Devil followers. Have fun. PS - Build yourself to max out one of your saves; You get a good Fort, but your Cha to your Will saves helps with that too. And Crusaders get Mettle. Build your Cohort to max out another save (Ref or Will), and make sure he gets Mettle if he's focused on Will or Fort. Max out several of your followers to either have Mettle and a good third save (be that Fort or Will), or take advantage of the natural Evasion the race gets and get Improved Evasion (Master Thrower?) along with an insane Reflex save. Laugh when people try to kill you. |
| Atraeyu01-05-07, 01:57 AM | okay, so it looks like the best bet here and most agreed with build is druid10/planar shepherd10. now, can someone tell me why? where can i find planar shepherd? and since i can go with nearly anything whats the best race for this druid build and in general? ECL shouldnt matter, as long as its an actual character race in a ook somewhere, not just someone who decides to make a beholder or tarrasque into a character race. |
| Edea01-05-07, 02:24 AM | Two reasons: planar bubble, and the ability to wild shape into an outsider native to your attuned plane...while retaining all of thier extraordinary, supernatural, and spell-like abilities. Fernia, for example, has outsiders capable of using wish as a spell-like ability...without paying the XP costs. Planar bubble's main element of borkedness is the retention of the chosen plane's time trait: for example, Dal Quor allows for 10 rounds of action for anyone within the bubble (i.e. your allies) while only 1 round passes for those outside of it. It's found in Faiths of Eberron. Honestly, it ain't gonna matter much what race you are since you'll be wild shaped into the very things that would have nightmarish LA costs if they were even playable to begin with, anyway. Human is quite sufficient. |
| Caylin01-05-07, 05:37 AM | Something with bonus to wis and no la. Like maybe anthropomorphic bat from savage species. |
| ksbsnowowl01-05-07, 08:06 AM | If you go with a Dal Quor aligned Planar Shepherd, a Half-Delkyr (Magic of Eberron, +0 LA) would be a good flavor fit, though Human would also be a good option from a min/max perspective. |
| Atraeyu01-05-07, 03:52 PM | okay, the planar shepherd is a good option but its sort of slow up to about level 14 or so right? well probably be starting more around 7 or 8 but well definitely be going to 20 so at the moment its a good idea but who knows? im sure you have more ;) Ideally, the build should be some sort of spellcaster, there are only two of us this time and my friend is going to be a melee monster. The planar shepherd (time plane?) seems like an awesome thing to go for but i really want to make my DM to cry without him being able to just say "no you cant do that"(take 10 rounds for the enemies 1), but im sure he wont say that about the wild shaping into my planes inhabitants so ive still got a couple things up my sleeve, either way. The only books i have with me are the core books, Races of Destiny, and Unearthed Arcana(My DMs the one with EVERY DnD book ever lol) but just looking through my books the aasimar seems like a good race, and the doppelganger would be awesome if not for a +4 LA and at the momentim trying to gain my real power SOONER, not 4 levels later heh so. but the aasimar is only LA+1 has Wis+2 and Cha+2, resistance to acid, cold, and electricity 5 among other things. so for a druid it eems decent. let me know. |
| LordBOB77701-05-07, 04:26 PM | In Races of the Wild, there is a race called a Killoren. It might not be the most min/maxed race out there, but it has some neat racial abilities. |
| GraveDigger01-05-07, 09:29 PM | Where can one find planar shepard? |
| 1DHandful01-05-07, 09:37 PM | Faiths of Eberron, if I remember correctly. |
| Animae_Draconum01-06-07, 01:31 AM | Without further ado I present the link to the Planar Shepherd Handbook... Planar Shepherd Handbook (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=709233) |
| Tleilaxu_Ghola01-06-07, 01:39 AM | What level? If level 20, then I'd say my best (most brokenly powerful) build is the Arcane Nova build. (Linked in my sig). Infinite spells in one std action of 7th level or lower on the Sor/Wiz list and of any variety you like, all for the low, low down payment of a few spells (1 9th level, 1 8th level, 1 4th level). |
| progresslevel901-06-07, 02:14 AM | okay, the planar shepherd is a good option but its sort of slow up to about level 14 or so right? well probably be starting more around 7 or 8 but well definitely be going to 20 so at the moment its a good idea but who knows? im sure you have more ;) Ideally, the build should be some sort of spellcaster, there are only two of us this time and my friend is going to be a melee monster. No, really, you dont want any LA, because even 1 point will slow you down by one level. For what...+1 Dc's on spell saves? Human, because that offsets the feat slot you know you'll be burning on natural spell. You dont need any add-ons to make the shepard any more kuhrazy than it already is. |
