Hey there, wondering if anyone has any good ideas for class selections for a Maug, I was thinking of Forsaker for the super SR and bonouses to attributes.

Any ideas?

...keeping in mind that I start with a BAB of +1 only and an ECL of +5. Pretty lame for a race built for war.

Maug is reasonably good for the level at which it's "born". The 30 bonus HP make up for the lack of HD and Con bonus.

However, those extra HP do not scale with level, so your Maug is going to fall farther and farther behind.

(They're great for war -- fearless soldiers who do not have any chance of threatening their high-level, non-construct officers. ;) )

Maug 5 / Paladin 4 / Templar 6 / Divine Champion 5

HP 136: 17d10
BAB: +16
SR 29: 14+Levels

Get some Maug grafts, and concentrate on CHA. A high CHA will:
1. Boost your Saves (Divine Grace).
2. Boost your Damage (Divine Might Feat).
3. Boost your Paladin & Divine Champion Smite attacks.
4. Increase your Divine Wrath duration.

Emphasize defense. Use sword & shield with TWF and Improved Shield bash. Since you don't need Con, it will be easy to get a 19 Dex by level 20 and have 7 attacks pre-epic.

Sweet build, thx... saves are the only thing lacking...but the thought of being a goody two-shoes though is....disturbing. Are there any (non-good) Divine Grace ability from base classes out there?...the prestige class prerequisies for my low BAB are a killer so Blackguard is out.

Artificer might be okay. Do you have access to Eberron classes?

Hexblade, I believe it's from Complete Warrior. It's not as good as divine grace though, because it only protects against spells and spell-likes if I remember correctly. Hexblade looks a bit like a paladin or ranger but with a few arcane spells instead of divine, and some blackguard-like auras.

And Artificers can pretty much do everything depending on how they're built. One advantage for a Maug is that artificers can use infusions on constructs, so it's nice to be a construct yourself. Since an artificer can have acces to pretty much any spell he can more or less do what spellscasters can do, sometimes much better.

Basically anything a Warforged could do... there are a lot of builds using those dudes on these boards. Imbue yourself to broken-ness -- er, I mean, optimization!

You'll be 5 levels behind those builds, but oh well... you wanted to be a Maug. :)

cool, I'll look into it tonight...I do need the quickest way to get (non-good) CHA to Saves...to cover all weaknesses before I go to a caster class.
