| PhaedrusXY01-28-04, 07:09 PM | I don't know that this is the "best" cleric necromancer, but I had alot of fun with him in the one game that I got to play him in. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=150894&highlight=possessor There were also a couple of threads on here dealing with clerical necromancy a bit ago. One was by Neonsamuri and the other was by ninja1. They weren't focused on builds, but instead on what were the best things to animate and rebuke, etc. |

The best necromancer clerics are the Doomdreamers of Tharizdun (sp?). Its a Prc on Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. It has a special ability that doubles the effective rebuking/commanding level of your character. You need an Int score of 20 to get that ability at 1st level, however, and that class doesn't improve your turning level otherwise, so its best to take 1 level only. |

| PhaedrusXY01-29-04, 02:34 AM | Originally posted by catharz Wizard/Ur priest/Mystic theurge/True necromancer - "I put the fires out!" "You made them WORSE!!!" "Worse or Better?" That is hard to pull off. You need another PrC in there that grants the Death domain, since Ur Priests don't have domains and True Necro requires it. Master of Shrouds would be a good choice. |
| Drizzt6901-29-04, 02:42 AM | Whats so good about ur-priest? |
| PhaedrusXY01-29-04, 02:46 AM | Originally posted by Drizzt69 Whats so good about ur-priest? 9th level cleric spells with 10 levels of the class, or 2 levels of it and 8 levels of MyTh. And your caster level is partially dependant on the caster level of all your other classes. Do a search for ur-priest/mystic theurge/true necro. You can get a caster level of over 50 at 20th level for your Necromancy and [Evil] spells with that combo. Combine that with Blasphemy, and it is sick... But that build isn't optimized for creating and controlling undead well at all. |

No matter how many times you use this spell, however, you can control only 4 HD worth of undead creatures per caster level. You were saying? |
| PhaedrusXY01-29-04, 03:21 AM | Originally posted by catharz ... You were saying? You can only make "crappy" undead with Animate Dead. To make the really nice ones, you have to use Create Undead or Create Greater Undead, or some other, similar spells. Undead made with these spells are not automatically under your control. You need to either talk to them diplomatically, or use the power of Rebuking/Controlling them. What I'm saying is that if you set out to make a cleric that is good at creating and controlling undead, then having the turning ability of a level 3 or 5 cleric is not the way to do it. If you want a zillion zombies or skeletons (or a few really high HD zombies or skeletons), then sure the Ur-priest/MyTh/TrueNecro is the way to go. If you want to control more powerful undead, it isn't. |

It isn't as good as controlling them with a turn check, but at least you can control undead with more than half your cleric level. |

I thought it was only with Necromancy... couldn't find any reference to evil spells in the class description of True Necromancer. |
| ninja101-29-04, 03:46 PM | I recommend a simple cleric. No PrC. Worship Nerrul  Check out some of the melee cleric builds and borrow a bit from them. Persistant spell just about anything with the word "Divine" in it. :) Grab the Leadership feat when available and "promote" your followers to Bone or Corpse Creatures. Encourage your cohort to go Lich with you. Single classed Wizard cohorts can round out your spell selections for item creation feats later. If you can resist the urge to make the cohort a necromancy specialist, you can have access to a wider array of spells. Those who do not succumb to your Diplomacy and Leadership should be sacrificed, animated, awaken undead, outfited with the best equip you can have your minions produce or that you wall or iron/fabricate, and equiped with cheap-o-depot items made via dark craft xp/liquid pain/souls for power. The resulting awakened progeny can populate your new unliving kingdom. Toss up some wall of stone based infrastructure. Worship Nerrul  Be sure to enhance that lonely skilll point in all those craft skills you took with wieldskill/guidance of the avatar/competence bonus items. Check out General of Undeath from MoF. It ADDS to your control limit, it does not supplant it. Toss it into an item, wash, rinse, repeat as needed. Use wall of stone and stone shape to put altars and shrines all over the place. (every 20 ft.?) Your deity will approve. :D Worship Nerrul  If you absolutely must have a PrC, check out Lord of the Dead on WotC's website. You take a hit to your Fort save bonus, but the turn resistance and bolstering aura is nice. Oh I almost forgot: 1. go Bone Creature (for the natural attacks) 2. go Lich 3. go Demilich and at each step along the way make sure the rituals take place near an altar dedicated to your god and within the area of a desecrate spell. Use the search function to look for the word "undead" in the subject line. Read everything. Use the search function to look for the word "necromancer" in the subject line. Read everything. Use the search function to look for the word "ninja1" in the user name. Read everything. Just Kidding! :D (btw, thanks for the props PhaedrusXY, you rock!) Worship Nerrul  I'm sure I missed a bunch of things, but if you ask nicely, I'm sure others around here will fill in the gaps. Good luck, and welcome to the team! |
