| Galnandros07-13-04, 11:45 PM | What is the best cohort for a paladin 6/ crusader 1/ fist of razeil 5? i can get an ECL 10 at my current level, and i would really like to see if there are any cool flying mounts. ive considered a pegasus, and thats about the best option i could find. i had a hippogriff mount for a while and he died recently (due to a blasphemy spell), so i picked up leadership and was going to try to get a new cohort/mount that is more survivable with higher hit dice. the other class makeup for our group is as follows: straight mage mystic theurge drow champion of gwynharwyf ninja/rogue/whatnot (a hireling, DMPC) we have pretty much all the bases covered, so thats why i was going to try for a mount with leadership. let me know if you have any suggestions! thanks! |
| LaneDreast07-13-04, 11:49 PM | Druid 10 would be a good mount character with Exalted Wildshape and later draconic wildshape(needs lvl 12, right?). This gives you a good mount, who can cast spells, and do other activities if need be. |
| Blade271807-14-04, 12:00 AM | The non-epic Dragon Wild Shape only permits small or medium dragons, which precludes the possibility of riding (unless you have a small character). Draconic Polymorph, on the other hand, lets you assume a form that is your HD or lower, simultaneously boosting its abilities. With that, I vote for a 10th level cleric of a magic deity (for anyspell) with the spell Draconic Polymorph, and Extend + Persistant + Divine Metamagic (Persistant). If he's human or Strongheart halfling, you can take another feat, too. |
| Lord Zeb07-14-04, 12:07 AM | How about a spiked felldrake from the Draconomicon ? The beasties description even mentions them being favored mounts for Paladins. They are ECL 8, so you could even get a (slightly) advanced one since you can go to cohort ECL 10. Seem pretty nifty all around. |
| Galnandros07-14-04, 09:36 PM | hehe, i dont think my dm would go for that much min/maxing of my cohort as far as the druid and cheater go... i think the felldrake is the most viable option so far... although it doesnt seem much better than a pegasus, and a pegasus can fly... thanks for the suggestions though! they are much appreciated i really like the idea of a paladin flying on his steed, but most of them are pretty weak so if there are any stronger ones at EL 10 please enlighten me! |
| Lord Zeb07-14-04, 10:09 PM | Depending on your DM, the Winged template on a spiked felldrake (savage species, adds +2 LA) would work. "The rare winged spiked felldrake...." As presented in SS it wouldn't work 'cause of the felldrake's dragon type, but some GMs might work with ya. Good luck, Zeb |
| Pathanus07-15-04, 12:59 PM | Perhaps a Tauric Creature, with the lower half of a winged creature would work. There have to be some powerful Tauric combo's out there for a large winged creature. Or maybe a Half-Celestial Displacer Beast if the ECL is around 10. Path |
| Blade271807-15-04, 01:38 PM | Advanced dragonnel, then. |
