Balkazar 10-30-06, 04:43 AM	I know I brought this question up but with the new idea's forming, as well as the new books coming out almost constantly I gotta ask it again. Right now as the Title of this thread says what im planning to do, its self explanatory. My characters background is set up to gather information, and at 6th lvl im going to try and attempt to set up a spy network, or information network, if you think about it there sorta the same thing. Now im trying to decide what cohort would be best to go along with this RP perspective theme of such a network. Right now my rogue is a halfling and im not sure if I wish to keep it small folks, or just halflings in the network or what. So what do you all think about a Cohort for a spy/information network sorta character ?, or should the cohort be something that helps the network threw other means then being the rogueish type ? As far as I know all books are allowed except a few certain ones that I cant name right off the bat. Thank you for the help if any is given.
X-Codes 10-30-06, 05:16 AM	Basically anyone that can serve as a capable flanking buddy with a modicum of stealth skills thrown in. If you're ToB enabled, I'm thinking a Warblade that takes Martial Study (Any 1st- or 2nd-level Shadow Hand Manuver). Martial Study is an easy way to get Intimidate, Sense Motive, Hide, Diplomacy, and others as class skills. He should probably be Human (little folks can't have all the fun, besides he doesn't get as much SA) and take Dodge and Mobility at 1st level, with White Raven Defense and Clarion Commander coming at 5th and 6th and Elusive Target at 9th. As soon as he qualifies he can pick up levels of Dread Commando which makes for an excellent flanking buddy on top of everything else. If not, then use a Ranger who takes Favored Enemy against your most common espionage targets. That Favored Enemy bonus also applies to a number of defensive skill checks which could be very valuable while undercover. Take Ranger to level 6, picking up Dodge, Mobility, and Elusive Target on the way and then go into Dread Commando.

hakuman 11-08-06, 04:26 AM	Hi Balkazar, this is a really interesting question which I'm also thinking about.. I think my answer is applicable to you but please shout if it won't work! I've also got a halfling rogue: CG 9 Rogue, 1 Ranger, 1 Holy Liberator, about to get 12th level feat leadership and also about to choose a cohort. In our case the campaign is one where the cohort won't necessarily get a lot of in game action (5 players 1 dm, and we can't all have 2 chars each..).. but we do have a base which needs defending, and loads of information which needs gathering in the background. I'm also thinking of going Guild Thief later and want something compatible... So like you, there will be lots of offline gather information stuff for the cohort to do.. For us the base is in an elf forest.. and at the moment I'm thinking of going for a Grey elf Arcane Heirophant - with wild-shape, animal companion, and if I can get a 3 Dr, 3Wi, 2MT, 2AH - both 7th level MU and druid spells. There are some pretty cool animal companion feats as well as things like practiced spellcaster and natural spell.. hmm.. or instead with a couple of feats (exalted companion, exalted wild shape).. I could have a cohort "great eagle" with an animal companion "great eagle" the ultimate transport for a halfling rogue! The scry spells can also sometime carry a message spell to allow communication between the cohort and main char..! Maybe for you you could consider a halfling Archane Heirophant - if you have no campaign reasons for going for an elf. not sure what other good choices there are for Balkazar?

If you don't want to hijack the thread, don't post a completely different character and ask an optimization question. Posting your character in someone else's thread and asking an optimization question is hijacking their thread.

Hi, I posted the character as my answer to the question.. and I certainly didn't intend to ask an optimization question. I'll edit this to make it completely clear.
