| Caelic01-25-04, 12:07 PM | Well, here's something that hasn't been kicked around recently...and since there's been a pretty good "Best domains" thread recently, it might be worth talking about. There are lots of opinions on which domains are best for a divine caster. In general, access to tasty non-clerical spells and a decent domain power seem to be the determining factors. What domains, though, are best for arcane casters who take a level in one of the prestige classes that grants a domain to such casters? Obviously, Healing is way up near the top of the list. Adding the full range of healing spells to a Wizard or Sorceror's spell list drastically increases his or her versatility. What else works well, though? War seems like the ideal domain for an Eldritch Knight or other melee-oriented caster: you get two bonus combat-related feats, plus Divine Power, plus Magic Vestment--all extremely useful. Any others? |
| Dark Caesar01-25-04, 12:14 PM | Mysticism for a sorcerer because it gives you divine grace for your high (hopefully) charisma. +4 to all your saving throws isn't anything to scoff at. The spells it gives you aren't bad either. |
| Dire Serpent01-25-04, 12:20 PM | gives Spell Focus: Enchantment. Not bad for a bard or enchanter. |
| Vainglory01-25-04, 12:25 PM | Travel domain, almost if not all useful spells and the best domain ability. Good domain could be useful, several great clerical spells, Dispel Evil is one of my favorites. |
| Snow Savant01-25-04, 12:52 PM | 1. Arcane Gnome Illusionists & Bards will sometimes take 1 level of Cleric just to get the Illusion and Gnome domains to get the combined +2 to Caster Level bonus. There is a build floating around here that surprisingly, puts this dip to good use. Both domains are in the FRCS. 2. Sorcerors and Bards would get good use out of the Charm domain (FRCS). You get a +4 to CHA (unnamed bonus) 1/day for 1 minute and activated as a free action. Good for when you absolutely, positively want that crucial spell DC cranked up as high as possible. Also good for Bard Song DC's as well. XO, Snow :cloud9: |
| Teh Lurv01-25-04, 03:19 PM | Some other domains that aid Arcane Casters: Planning - Free Extend Spell Feat Rune - Free Scribe Scroll Feat Tyranny - +2 DC to compulsion spells you cast. Knowledge - All Knowledge skills are class skills to you (excellent for Sorc who need Knowledge(planes) for other PrCs.) Divination spells are cast at +1 caster lvl. Elf - Free Point Blank Shot. Not exactly a magic related feat, but the +1 atk and dmg can be applied to rays and energy missle spells. Luck - The ability to reroll a roll once a day can be applied to spell attack rolls and rolls to beat SR. |
| foxylady01-28-04, 05:39 AM | domains can an arcane caster acquire without any (or as little as possible) caster level loss? An enchantment specialist (wizard or sorceror) with Tyranny and Domination domains looks yummy. |
| Neonsamurai01-28-04, 05:42 AM | There are very few ways to get (prestige) domains w/o caster level loss. The only i know of are exorcism (through Sacred Exorcist (DoF) and divination (Divine Oracle (DoF)). But Snow surely knows some more =) |

Contemplative is generally taken to get this domain and contemplative only adds to divine progression or starts a divine progression. Sisyfos |
| guarnasco01-28-04, 07:00 AM | master of the shrouds is an arcane caster and gives u acces to 3 domains: evil, protection or death :D |
| Sisyfos01-28-04, 07:05 AM | In DoTF it says that the master of shrouds has requirement that he has one of those domains. It also specifically says that it is a divine caster. Sisyfos |
| Battousai01-28-04, 09:24 AM | Yes ,but it also says that being able to cast one spell that appears in any of those domains qualifies you as having the domain for purpose of entering the PrC |
| Sisyfos01-28-04, 09:39 AM | Correct it seems. Missed that part. But the PrC still only adds to divine spellcasting and pratically needs cleric levels (need to channel negative energy+needs divine spells). So it might not be the best option for getting domains for arcane casters. For sorcerer mystic theurge builds that PrC might be pretty good though. |
| Funny Slaughter01-28-04, 10:31 AM | yep, there are plenty of classes granting secondary divine spellcasting, but i dont know about any that would grant arcane beside of the mentioned. without losing a point of BAB there is nothing to get. gs Funny |
