| mark197506-06-06, 06:50 PM | I'm currently in a Eberron Campaign that Happens to be somewhat of a DPS (damage per secound) Bragging rights Game. Ofcourse we cover it up with a Bit of Roleplaying ;) My question is, What Class/Class combination is Biggest Damaging type class (Barring Rogue) that i can create? DM said 'Every 3.5 Supplement is Fine with him' Any Suggestions would be great. Class with Feat Combos would be nice also Thanks Mark |
| Subedei06-06-06, 06:54 PM | I think you mean DPR (damage per round). Halfling Outrider/Cavalier with a valarous weapon would be a good place to start. |
| Mr. Dog06-06-06, 06:55 PM | Hulking hurler or pun-pun. Or one of the infinite damage builds. |
| Subedei06-06-06, 06:56 PM | *narrows eyes* So we meet again, Mr. Dog. |
| Xeraph06-06-06, 06:59 PM | I think he means BWPR (Baskets Weaved Per Round). Id go with a Feat Rogue 10/ Exemplar 10 and focus on those important Knowledge (Basket Weaving), Craft (Baskets) and Proffession (Basket Weaver) skills. UberERCharger is a good bet aswell. |
| Kuroi Kenshi06-06-06, 07:05 PM | The Shadowcraft Illusionist Killer Gnome, and the Blade Bravo/Iaijutsu Master "other" Killer Gnome and their respective variants if you want to be funny, but all those above mentioned probably have better raw DPR. |
| mark197506-06-06, 07:06 PM | ' Hulking hurler or pun-pun. Or one of the infinite damage builds.' Whats a 'Pun-Pun'? Mark |
| Xeraph06-06-06, 07:13 PM | Blasphemer! Check my sig heretic. Have anice day. :D |
| jstorrie06-06-06, 10:17 PM | Rogues make as good DPS in D&D as they do in WoW. A standard Rogue dual-wield build (Ranger 2 / Rogue 6 / Fighter 1 / Rogue 11) can put out a very hefty amount of sneak attack damage. Just watch out for enemies immune to critical hits and sneak attacks! |
| Subedei06-06-06, 10:52 PM | 40 str and a +5 Bastard Sword, 7 power attack and Exotic Weapon Master 1 does, on average...1d10+30+14+5=54 damage/attack without any real effort whatsoever and the same attack bonus as the Rogue, four attacks. A Rogue with 18 str (12 base, +6 item) and 40 dex (much harder to get than Str) with Greater TWF and two shortswords would do...1d6+4+5+10d6=47 and 2 less for offhand attacks, six attacks. Slightly better/round but the figher is going to be considerably tougher and has a lot of feats to increase it. Furthermore, their damage effects everything and doesn't require flanking. |
| Esponer06-06-06, 11:12 PM | I'm currently in a Eberron Campaign that Happens to be somewhat of a DPS (damage per secound) Bragging rights Game. Ofcourse we cover it up with a Bit of Roleplaying ;) My question is, What Class/Class combination is Biggest Damaging type class (Barring Rogue) that i can create? DM said 'Every 3.5 Supplement is Fine with him' I think for you to gain something from this thread, you need to give us an idea of the scale. You'd be somewhat disturbed as to just what is possible. Infinite damage is possible. These builds will generally destroy anything they touch. Pun-Pun, for instance, is a character build which has essentially found a way to step outside the normal rules of the games and has everything. Most of his traits are infinite or arbitrarily high, he has any ability that's useful to him: I won't get into the rest. There are some other infinite loops that get you infinite damage. A nice one that I only heard of in passing (might not be possible) was a duskblade multi-pouncer (multi-pouncing discussed below) essentially teleporting infinite times in a round and thus getting infinite full attacks. Ridiculously high damage is also possible. These usually abuse nigh-infinite loops with spells. The highest damage (non-infinite) I've seen so far on these forums is a number which I'm not even comfortable expressing. I'm not entirely convinced that the cube of the total number of particles in every single moment in the universe (taking a moment as one Planck time) would come anywhere near close to that number. Beyond that, we've got lesser "novas" - these are ridiculous spell combinations. And of course, the Hulking Hurler, which abuses two prestige classes and some faulty reckoning at the hands of the publishers to deal damage in the... oh, I don't keep track. I think it went beyond a million long ago. That's throwing rocks, by the way. Lancers ("Arr! I charge you, and all the multipliers on my damage and my full attack on a charge make me rather scary!"), multi-pouncers ("Every time I teleport I get a full attack..."), and some other builds can comfortable hit four figure damage per round. The feats Robilar's Gambit (PHB II) and Karmic Strike (CWar) can be combined with something like Decisive Strike (PHB II) to effectively get four attacks as a response to every attack against you, but you can take that further with up to an effective twelve (two and six really: but Decisive Strike doubles their damage). Even in the four figures will destroy most games, obviously. Three figure damage is a little more sane, and the realm of most Frenzied Berserkers, Revenant Blades etc. (Though I'm sure they can get to four figures with a little work.) If you're looking at anything less than that, then you're really not doing that much damage by CO standards at all. So, what are you after? Of the suggestions so far... Infinite - Pun-Pun, various others, theoretical duskblade Ridiculous - spell loops Millions - Hulking Hurler Thousands - Ubercharger and various other lancers, multi-pouncers Hundreds - Halfling Outrider/Cavalier, Iaijutsu Master, Shadowcraft Illusionist (not sure; never looked at this one), optimised rogue (uhh, maybe), Frenzied Berserker, Revenant Blade Oh guys. If you happen to know the latest Hulking Hurler is actually in the tens of millions, the best Revenant Blade build is in the thousands, or that I'm an idiot and the Shadowcraft Illusionist is in the billions, then... I don't really need to know, and accept that my estimates above are just that. PM me if you want. :) |
| Big Nate06-06-06, 11:13 PM | how about barbarian into frenzied bezerker. |
| tsuyoshikentsu06-07-06, 12:22 AM | How about Shifter to Barbarian to Warshaper to Frenzied Berserker to Bear Warrior to Berserker? ;) |
| NoldorForce06-07-06, 12:27 AM | I prefer something involving Changeling Warshaper for the number of attacks. That Barbarian->Frenized Berserker thing sounds neat to add to it. |
| __DnD4Life__06-07-06, 12:43 AM | a Barbarian/Frenzied berzerker, using the Hellbringer Flail (in my sig) that rages and spins like madness. Add flaming, PA, and enhancement boni, and your laffing. OR: A half-giant Fighter riding a heavy warhorse, weilding 2 lances with Shock Trooper, PA, Ride-by-attack, and Leap attack. Charge monster, leap last 10 feet, then attack with full PA. PA is a 1:3 ratio with both lances, so a level 20 fighter with 28 str would be looking at 1d8+9+60 for both weapons, and that is without magic. Then again, you could just be a level 22 wizard with a Living Hellball familliar, and the Imp. Familliar feat. Your allies and enemies alike will cringe. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-07-06, 02:23 AM | Oh guys. :) Rather than PM, I'm just going to provide a quick update for people keeping notes at home. The most recent Hurler damage estimate, about twelve expansion books ago (Complete Adventurer was the last book used), was a few quadrillion. The classic UberERchargers are in the tens of thousands, and I think it may be possible using PHB2 feats to enter the hundreds of thousands if you're lucky. Both pale to the current D&D damage record (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=573196) (that is, the record in quantifiable damage dealt that is NOT only limited by your patience and doesn't scale automatically to infinity), which, when evaluated (no small task), is (2.5*10^36530)^^73600, using Knuth's up-arrow notation. (Quick explanation of Knuth's up-arrow notation: A^^4 is A^A^A^A, while B^^6 is B^B^B^B^B^B. Like Esponer, I'm not comfortable thinking about numbers this large, and I've dealt with thermal physics, a branch of physics dealing with all the possible distributions of energy in a collection of particles.) This was not meant to correct Esponer or anything; it was meant to provide a quick reference for those who didn't want to look up the exact values. |

DM said 'Every 3.5 Supplement is Fine with him' Any Suggestions would be great. Class with Feat Combos would be nice also Let's narrow the scope some. Why don't you tell us what kinds of damage numbers the other characters are pulling off? Are we looking at 100-200 damage per round, 500 damage per round, 5000 damage per round? What is your group pulling off? As stated above those are all possible, as is infinite damage. If you tell us what you're working with, we'll try to avoid breaking your DMs game. |
| AgentBlue06-07-06, 12:37 PM | Could someone post a link to one of these "multi-pouncers"? I haven't heard of these builds yet, and they sound rather interesting. Thanks |
| Tempest Stormwind06-07-06, 12:41 PM | Could someone post a link to one of these "multi-pouncers"? I haven't heard of these builds yet, and they sound rather interesting. Thanks In their simplest form, they're Teflammar Shadowlords or Crinti Shadow Marauders (respectively from Unapproachable East and Shining South) built to maximize their number of attacks per full attack, and then given some means of executing multiple dimension doors or related effects (dimension swap and dimension hop are the two most popular alternatives -- swap moreso if there's two of these guys flanking a target). A slight variant is the above with Dissolving Touch and Opportunity Power. Dissolving touch has the teleportation descriptor, which triggers Shadow Pounce (surprisingly). Thus, this amounts to a lotta d6 damage from the power plus a full attack of opportunity. I don't have an actual link. |
| AgentBlue06-07-06, 12:54 PM | Thank you Tempest, you truly are a talented gamer and a very kind person to boot! |

I feel really dirty doing that trick. Doing it while actually teleporting seems much less dirty. |
| Caelic06-07-06, 01:02 PM | The main flaws to the multipouncing Duskblade were: 1. He had to attack himself in order to set off the Dimension Hop loop. In an infinite loop, this means doing infinite damage to himself. 2. Everything he attacks ALSO gets hit with Dimension Hop, which leaves it out of range of the rest of the attack sequence. But, heck, even a straight Cleric 20 can be a nigh-infinite damage build with one Persisted spell, a pot of boiling water, and an anthill. |
| AgentBlue06-07-06, 01:09 PM | Don't forget the used chewing gum, the flathead screwdriver, and the most important part of all.......Ducktape!! |

In an infinite loop, this means doing infinite damage to himself. I didn't keep track of that thread long, as I don't really care much for anything beyond the "thousands of damage" realm, but isn't that easily remedied by dealing nonlethal and having something making you immune to nonlethal damage? |
| Item Eater06-07-06, 02:20 PM | I didn't keep track of that thread long, as I don't really care much for anything beyond the "thousands of damage" realm, but isn't that easily remedied by dealing nonlethal and having something making you immune to nonlethal damage?I haven't seen the thread at all (and would love to know its title or get a link), but it seems like the damage-to-self question can be remedied by simply taking the mineral warrior template (Races of Stone?) for the DR 8/Adamantine, and dealing 8 or less damage to yourself with each attack. For instance, you could have 16 strength with a +1 Flaming Dagger. At most, barring criticals, you would deal 8 physical damage to yourself; sure, you deal piddling damage per attack to your target, but you can keep doing it forever. To avoid damage from accidentally criticalling yourself, if that is even possible, just use armor of heavy fortification, and you can add fire resistance to your armor to soak up all the fire damage. As for the dimension hopping your opponent away, couldn't you just dimension hop yourself toward him however many times it takes, since you can do it infinitely anyway. If the Duskblade multipounce trick works just that simply, you could easily rack up arbitrarily large amounts of damage in one round, limited only by your patience and physical ability to roll dice. If it is possible to critically miss yourself, you'll be limited in range from a few million to several billion damage per round (depending on how many times you can attack yourself per round); that would still pretty pretty competitive for damage per round. |
| mark197506-07-06, 10:45 PM | Well The Highest per Round Damage i've seen in 4 gaming seesions is 220ish... so maybe a 500 hit point damage per round class/build with feats would be a Nice recommendation. I don't think my DM would allow a Spell Loop with 1.311e1011 dmg per round capability.. (I GM also so i feel..) and the average Party level atm is 15th so any suggestion would still be appreciated. Thanks Mark |
| Enamel_3206-08-06, 01:02 AM | A funny note with the infinite [self-] damage builds... Pain mastery is insane. |
| mark197506-08-06, 05:06 PM | Any Other Suggestions out there for a 'Non-Self Damaging' Damage per Round Class Build? Thanks Mark |
| hughman06-08-06, 08:04 PM | Well, it depends on how you are defining Damage, but the Master of Shrouds summoning jsut Shades does a Ton of Strength damage, WIth Divine Quickened Summoning, you can get a lot of them out real fast. OH, and with shades, 0 str = Dead, so if you are wanting killing rights, /shrug. Hughman |

OH, and with shades, 0 str = Dead, so if you are wanting killing rights, /shrug.The biggest problem I see with that is anything you fight that is immune to ability damage (undead, constructs, etc) is immune to this little trick. That is why there are so many straight damage builds, since pretty much everything is vulnerable to hitpoint damage. |

Thanks Mark Well...my unoptimized 9th level Bbn/FrB in a one-shot did do a single crit of 120 points once...his total output, that round was something like 220 points... An optimized FrB using ungodly power attack, surrounded by enemies and whirlwinding would be soooo cool. :) |
