Father Tim 09-09-06, 04:09 AM	PHB race, 28 point buy, DW Cutlass & dagger, 3rd level to start (most likely) I'm planning to play a Dread Pirate in our new campaign, and expect the majority of the campaign to take place from level 6 to 10. Acquiring the ship will not be a problem, but there are no magic item shops and no way to acquire a specific magic items other than convincing another PC to craft it. Another requirement is the character needs to be playable at low levels - we'll be fighting a large number of orcs to get the above-mentioned ship, so any character that can't stand up to a few rounds of orc-hammering is going to end up dead (and we'll lack access to Raise Dead).
jstorrie 09-09-06, 04:47 AM	Straight bard is good. Bard 6 / Dread Pirate 4 / Warchanter 10 is decent. For a nonstandard build, Paladin 4 / Fighter 1 / Purple Dragon Knight 2 / Warchanter 3 is a good entry, although you'd already be CL10 by that point. You'd have a much higher chance of surviving the orcs first, at least.
