| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue09-05-05, 02:36 PM | Well I was just curious as to what was the most powerful method of spellcasting at epic levels, going the automatic metamagice route? Spellcraft route or going the improved spell capacity route? Any feedback is good. (note: This is 3.0, not using the updated feats in the complete series.) |
| colm_l09-05-05, 04:17 PM | Automatic. Quicken True strike is hugely powerful for starters |
| AlienFromBeyond09-05-05, 04:20 PM | Always get Epic Spellcasting. You break games with it. Plus it only costs one feat, and then you can continue with improved spell capacity/automatic metamagic. |

| X-Codes09-06-05, 03:26 AM | Epic Spellcasting first for anyone, the rest depends on your character. If you are a gish, then automatic quicken is pretty important. It's sad that it's only 1 level per feat now, but oh well. If you are an incantatrix or cleric, then Improved Spell Capacity will net you lots of bonus spell slots when your ability scores reach those heights. This means more (cheesed) metamagic and more (broken) spells per day. For all other casters, Improved Metamagic once or twice before going Improved Spell Capacity is a must. You don't have any way to cheese-out on metamagic unless you use a rod, and that can get downright expensive for the more powerful metamagic feats. These are all just what you get *first* for any given caster. Eventually a blend of all of them will give the best overall effect. It's also a good idea to pick up one or two Multispell feats in your high 20's/30's. More magic = more death to your enemies. P.S. Combine a constitution-draining effect from the Death seed with the Destruction seed for epic spells. It's incredably effective for things you just want to die. |
| Father Dale09-06-05, 09:51 AM | The choice for Improved Metamagic vs Improved Spell Capacity will depend not only on your previous feat choices, but also on your spellcasting ability atttribute. If you have a real high Int or Cha so that you would net extra bonus spells for slots above 9th lvl, then that might be a better choice. You need a minimum of a 30 in your score to get a bonus 10th lvl slot, and a 36 to get a second tenth lvl slot (at which point you would also have bonus 11th, 12th, 13th, adn 14th slots). Now its possible to get them that high, especially with Epic Spellcasting (+30 Int for 24 hours a day is not hard at all.), so if going that route, improved spell capacity might be better. But generally, the Improved Metamagic will give more benefit at lower epic levels and Improved Spell Capacity will pay off more at higher levels when you gain get higher ability scores. But the real power comes form mulitple Multispells. |
