High everybody,

Looking for your oppinion on what's the best familiar for a wizard as follows:

Base: Wizard:7/Sacred Exorcist:9, int, wsd, cha: 18+, LG alignment, LG, NG or LN is acceptable for the familiar's alignment

This guy tends to have allround caster qualities(utility/mobility/blaster/save-or-die) with a strong point in abjuration/protection spells.

Classical AD&D mage with a certain anti undead/outsider theme, basically.

Two feats to spend on improving the little bugger. (they're a special bonus and can't be used for anything else - DM's verdict)

Special house rule 1: all levels count towards familiar developement - thus int:13, +8 ac, et. al.

Special house rule 2: wizards that get damaged in a given combat round before getting off their spell just blow it - no concentration check or whatever. Thus, this guy tends to have bodyguards around and avoids close quarters even more than normal 3rd Ed. wizards.
More like 1st/2nd Ed wizards.

Just have a go...

Thanx

Ooh! Abyssal Heritor feats for the familiar!
...wait, you'd probably want something more lawful.

Use the Elemental Familiar spell to get a Wind Elemental for +2 Initiative....that's the best for ANY wizard in my opinion....

There is an entire thread devoted to improving your familiar. You can find a link via the Optimization Library (which can be found in the "Important Threads" index at the top of the forum).

well, i gotta say that you are definitely going to want to grab the Improved Familiar feat to get something beyond the basics. What you may want is all dependent though...is your familiar going to be something you'll use as a bodyguard as well?

I like the pseudodragon myself. Although maybe a lantern archon would be appropriate to your whole exorcist bent. I'd suggest checking out the Book of Exalted Deeds for possible familiars.

In Races of the Wild, there was a Hummingbird familiar with a whopping +3 to Initiative.

I'd recommend the wild cohort feat and/or the Unearthed Arcana variant that lets you subsitute a familar for an animal companion instead if you're looking for a bodyguard since even an improved familar is only going to have half your hit dice which isn't going to be much even with the SE levels.

It is +4, the substitution level is in WotW but the hummingbird familiar is found in Dragon #323.
