I'm thinking the best choices probably go in this order: evil outsider, undead, monstrous humanoid, magical beast, giant, aberration, dragon. Stalker of Kharash also has the ability to count all evil creatures as favored enemies.. I have a build coming up to abuse this particular option. |

| 42up02-22-04, 05:54 PM | Human is by far my favorite. |
| Matt Neuman02-22-04, 05:55 PM | I think it really depends on your campaign. For the game that I run, I'd probably go with: Human Undead Monstrous Humanoid Dragon Evil Outsider Aberration Other |
| LordShade02-22-04, 05:59 PM | Do you have to be evil to choose your own race as a favored enemy? |
| Matt Neuman02-22-04, 06:19 PM | Not anymore. You did in 3.0, but not in 3.5 Makes human into the 'power' choice, most of the time. |
| Ipsissimus02-22-04, 06:53 PM | In the Realms (FR) these have been the most effective of choices. Orc Goblinoid (truely a sleeper choice) Giant Outsider (evil) Abberration Of course Undead and Human are great choices though, house rule that you can't choose human as favored enemy if you have good in your alignment and our clerics/paladins simply blast away any undead with turning and searing light. The rest are such frequent encounters that even a +2 bonus makes for a huge advantage. Combined with some of the new favored enemy feats from Complete Warrior, +2 easily becomes +5. |

In that case, picking undead is clearly the best choice. I've also played with a DM who liked to mess with his characters, therefore if you chose, say Giants, as your first choice, you could be guaranteed to never see a bloody Giant type creature, ever. Another consideration is how long, and from what levels, will the campaign be going from. If the campaign is only going until level 6 or so, choices like evil outsiders and dragons don't seem as great, while things like Giants, monstrous humanoids and animals work pretty well. Humans is almost always a good choice in your average, generic campaign. I also like undead, since it seems that DMs as a whole, love undead, and these nasties have a wide array of CRs. I sometimes pick aberrations, but that's mostly because I'm terrified of beholders. |
