I'm running a Feral troll though the next campain and was looking for some feats to maximize his large size and huge stength score. We're starting at ecl 6 so he is a feral troll/5 and I only get two feats. I was thinking about Power Attack, but my BaB is only +3. Any suggestions?

Feral template can only be added to humanoids and monstrous humanoids. Thus no feral trolls exist (they're giant type).

Besides that little glitch, i like EWP (spiked chain), large and in charge and improved trip / wolf berserker (depending on your INT score).

Power attack is always good, even with a low bab, due to your high strength score you will easily hit your enemies even when power attacking for 3-5 bab points.

When you can get it, Power lunge (Sword & Fist) is the MOST effective feat at low levels for raw damage in my high Str PC's experience. That coupled with a 2 handed spiked chain is serious trouble: double your str on charge, then times that 1.5 for the 2 handed = OUCH!

Its name and location elude me at the moment, but there is a feat which extends your natural reach by 5ft. Use that with large and in charge and perhaps combat reflexes.

Neon, thanks for pointing that out, :embarrass makes sense though 2d6+10 per claws seemed pretty uber. It's been awhile since I've seen Large and in Charge. Is it in SaF? That the on where you can knock back attackers that move into your threted area, correct. Also I'm not a real big fan of the spiked chain, even though it is powerful. Any other suggestions on weapons/feats? Thanks in advance.

check out the weapons in complete warrior: Maul & War Mace. Make your version Huge for extra damage but you'll need the "Monkey grip" feat, also found in same book, to wield them as the 2 handed version.

Read the S&F Errata. You only get x2 str.

So how does that work with a character with more than 2 arms? Is the feat useless then for them?

matbolt, that feat is from savage species, and it requires that you have an 'elastic' natural weapon, or something like that. to me, subjective terms in a feat's reqs might as well say "ask your dm" to players, and "err on the side of caution" to dms.

markus l, i don't think monkey grip allows wieldery of weapons one size category too big unless that would make it one handed for the character.

griff, there's a feat at the end of the 3.5 mm that sounds right up your alley, though i can't remember what it's called. check it out; it has something to do with taking a full rd action to make some attack that i thought was definitely impressive, as far as the numbers went, though i can't remember exactly what it was.

that feat, combined with war hulk and all your level adjusts oughta make you just about perfect. your base attack will only allow for one attack, so you take it as a full round action, gaining the benephits of this phantom pheat, and dealing a lot of damage with that astronomical strength score.

edit: changed that pesky markus.i to a markus l. should it be markus j instead?

Thanks for all your suggestions. I looked in the MM the feat is Awsome Blow which is kind of cool cuz I could send people flying all over the battlefield. Wielding a huge Maul would be cool. I've got this picture of this troll running around with this gigantic hammer flatening things, it makes me:) . I was also thinking about taking Imp. Nat weapon (claw) that would give me 2 claw attacks doing 1d8+8 per claw and a bite doing 1d6+4. If I do use a maul though, I can still take a bite attack at a -5 penalty, correct? Thanks again Guys.

Nope, You're right it's Markus."L"

As far as Monkey Grip...
Page 103, Complete Warrior
"You can use melee weapons one size larger than you with a -2 to hit..."
Since he's Large, a Huge Maul would work with the feat but he'd have to use it 2 handed and have a -2 to hit.

Since he's Large, a Huge Maul would work with the feat but he'd have to use it 2 handed and have a -2 to hit.

But if I took EWP (maul), that would allow me to use a Large maul one handed, so if I added Monkey grip I should be able to use a Huge maul one handed correct?

Actually I probly wouldn't waste the extra feat anyway cuz as a troll, I'm not prof w/ armor or shields so I might get a mithral chain shirt (no ACP) but I don't know if the ACP for a shield would be worth it. Unless I could use my maul in one hand and a claw attak w/ the other. Would that be legal?

but can't a character wield a weapon one size category larger than himself in 2 hands anyway? wielding a huge maul as a large creature is like wielding a large maul as a medium creature? is there something i'm missing about the maul here? is it like a bastard sword? if so, i highly disrecommend it. you could spend that monkey grip feat on exotic weapon prof (an upsized version of that sword from the a&eg that deals 2d8 dmg), and be much better off, in my opinion.

griff, the situation with full attacks including both natural and manufactured weapons is hazy to me. i would say that you can always designate any of your attack forms as 'primary,' recieving no atk penalty and dealing + 1 1/2 x str mod to dmg as long as it's natural, and the others as 'secondary,' recieving a - 5 atk penalty to all of those. i would say that, but illithid body tamers gain that ability from their class, so it seems to me as though the normal system should be worse somehow.

anyway, i highly recommend that you decide now whether you'd rather take war hulk and maybe awesome blow (which is a standard action, not a full rd, i think) and not have a full attack at all, or go the route you seem to be favoring; that of a full attack utilizing what natural weapons you can, along with a bigass hunk of metal.

HA! You're right. I meant a Gargantuan Maul (YIKES :mymy: ) But I believe one would still need the EWP Maul to use it...

If you get Power Lunge then your STR damage will be X2. That is some nasty numbers coming down on your foes. Heck get a Garg. Halberd with a 10' reach. You'll be hitting peeps 20' away. Then you'll need combat reflex's and a decent Dex.

Charge in and POW! (Cleave if ya got it)... Enemies turn... They move in to attack... Oops sorry attack of opportunity... WHACK!... Repeat as necessary :D
