| AvalonŽ04-04-06, 11:31 PM | I just got my copy of Frostburn and I saw the Primeval Prc. It looks like a good build with the big bonuses to str, dex, and con. I was wondering, what are the best forms to choose for the Primeval form ability. Note that a primeval's primeval form only allows a prehistoric animal with no more than 8 HD. |
| Pinky's brain04-04-06, 11:59 PM | The simple and cheesy choice is dire ape. |
| Gwythion04-05-06, 01:02 AM | Do they have pounce/rend/rake? My favorite is sabertooth tiger (I think it's called that), also in frostburn. |
| Surreal04-05-06, 01:57 AM | I believe the sabre-toothed tiger has 9hd. The dire lion is pretty close though. The dire ape has the rend ability, but the cheesy aspect is saying that since it's essentially humanoid it can wield weapons/armour/items/etc. Personally, my approach to Primeval regardless of the animal chosen is to take it simply as a one-level dip in the middle of my druid levels. As far as I know, primeval form has not been errata'd so you still gain the animal type, which makes you a legal target for all the tasty animal buffs out there (namely: animal growth). |
| Gwythion04-05-06, 04:21 AM | you can take a 9 hd form, i believe. |
| Ashlan04-05-06, 04:31 AM | you can take a 9 hd form, i believe. No you can't. It specifically limits you to a form with 8 hd or less. Ash |
| Gerdreg04-05-06, 07:50 AM | Dire Ape if your DM lets you wield weapons. Megaraptor (with Dire Lion as a close second) otherwise. Please note the megaraptor was reduced to large size in errata. There is a Dire Puma in Sandstrom that isn't too bad either. |
| RadicalTaoist04-05-06, 07:57 AM | Fleshraker dinosaur from MMIII. |
| AvalonŽ04-05-06, 02:15 PM | Too bad that the really good forms have such a high HD :weep: |
| Surreal04-05-06, 03:28 PM | That's kind of the controlling factor though, otherwise what's to stop you from taking a giant beast form with crazy physical stats? (other than for "role play" reasons). This is why I like the druid route, since it still allows me to buff myself up and keeps me up with the power curve a little more than just taking straight Primeval levels. |
