the Dread Witch prestige Class from Heros of Horror and the Nightmare Spinner from Complete Mage are both two options for the enterprising arcanist who just wants to scare people. Even better, both prestige classes are 5 level (and the first dread witch level can be picked up just after 4th level if you plan for it!) meaning you can max out both classes before going epic. What would be the best 20-level build to take full advantage of both classes?

Battlesorcerer might not be a bad option since it gets gets intimidate as a class skill so you can eventually get frightful presence and you can qualify for draconic presence if you want to go that route.

If you're combining two 5-level PrCs there's no way for you to be ready for an epic progression, so if its going to an epic game you'll have problems.

So I'd suggest either picking one of the classes and going with that:

Beguiler 1 / Wizard 4 / Ultimate Magus 10 / Dread Witch/Nightmare Spinner5.

Or, if you have to have both Wizard 3 / Master Specialist (Illusionist) 7 / Nightmare Spinner 5 / Dread Witch 5

Then you can finish Master Specialist by level 23 and just start an epic progression a bit late.

Yikes. You can fit some Shadowcraft Mage in there to add your Fear effects to your shadow illusions!

6th level Dragonfire Adept with Frightful Presence from the Draconomicon and the Frightful Presence invocation. Swift action to shake'em up with the invocation, standard action to breathe and scare'em silly. Throw on Intimidating Strike if you like, or use that new, scary PrC from Complete Scoundrel. I forget that one's name, but it looks like it would be awesome with a Rogue/DFA mix (with Able Learner to handle the skills, of course!).
