| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 08:00 PM | when my group does a gestalt we are not a lowed to multiclass within the gestalt (so no fancy builds), i have chosen a psy warrior and i was wondering what is a good choice for he other class, ranger didnt look bad for the better attack bonus and the fighting style, but i dont want to have to deal with the animal companion and the couple of spell he'll get. the character will be level 7 and i think human so far, but the race is negociable.for his stats i rolled 18, 17, 17, 16, 15, 14. (lucky me!!! :dancin: ) ANY help is appreciated. Thank You, Noti Animboa |
| matbot08-29-05, 08:04 PM | If you were going to take ranger for the other side of your build, why not go ranger // psion for the better manifesting + powers? |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 08:07 PM | i guess i could but why not take fighter-psion then? |
| matbot08-29-05, 08:16 PM | That would work nicely, you'd have a lot of flexibility with the combat feats from the fighter levels, and could use your regular feats to boost your manifesting. You could buff yourself crazily or create some nasty constructs to fight beside you. Be sure to take a look at the gatling gun chain fighter build heh :D |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 08:24 PM | i will do that thank you very much. what do you think is a good choice as far as his expertice goes? i like kineticist but im not too good with psions. also do their gained feats stack because they fall under different requirements? or ssince the fighters are "better" do you only take his. |
| PhaedrusXY08-29-05, 08:39 PM | Egoist is the best discipline choice for a fighter/psion, whether it's a gestalt character or just a multiclassed "gish". I'd go with Elan for the race. With the massive amount of power points you'll have, you'll be able to take full advantage of their Resiliance ability. |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 08:40 PM | would an elan ever be in the desert of it's own volition? i only have the srd for psionics at the moment and it doesnt have much of a description so any woulfd help. |
| PhaedrusXY08-29-05, 08:43 PM | would an elan ever be in the desert of it's own volition? i only have the srd for psionics at the moment and it doesnt have much of a description so any woulfd help. They look and act just like humans, for the most part. In fact they are "evolved" humans. So yes, you could easily find them in the desert, or anywhere else you find humans. |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 08:44 PM | awesome...he grow closer to completion by the moment! |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 09:05 PM | again i'd like to ask if the feats from the two classes stack or not? |
| PhaedrusXY08-29-05, 09:13 PM | again i'd like to ask if the feats from the two classes stack or not? What do you mean stack? You get all bonus feats from both classes, if that's what you mean. |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 09:15 PM | most exelent, that was what i was asking, and i applogize for the poor wording. Thank You, Noti Animboa |
| Dragon308-29-05, 09:21 PM | Why not psychic warrior and psion? Psychic warrior get all fighter feats but one. Grant your bab is 5 lower but man you have a massive pp pool and a wide variety of powers. |
| PonTelon08-29-05, 09:21 PM | Psion/Fighter does sound interesting. Just as some other ideas of the same feel: Psy Warrior(or Fighter)/Warlock - this one is tons of fun. Warlock is one of the best ones to gestalt, since it's unlimited uses, it's not a big investment of time(like normal spellcasters) Psy Warrior(or Psion)/Druid would be tons of fun too. =) Nothing like a psychic bear. =) |
| matbot08-29-05, 10:34 PM | Psionic bear!!! :OMG! |
| Noti Animboa08-29-05, 10:43 PM | that does sound like fun..but sadly i cant do that for this character....but soon perhaps it will happen... |
| slade_caizer08-29-05, 11:38 PM | Now that I think of it a Ranger/Psion would have Int-based manifesting with 6+Int skill points. It'd also have full BAB and all good saves. Since you don't want to worry about Ranger casting or animal companion, let your Wis and Cha be dump stats. And so appears the one character to rule them all. :D BTW do a google search for "Pun-pun". |
| Dragon308-29-05, 11:44 PM | Yes esp Ranger get evasion as well. This'll almost be like illithid slayer type except for a few things lol. |
| Nifft08-30-05, 01:00 AM | Use Illithid Slayer. It's a good PrC. 1-6: Psion6 // Ranger6 7: Psion7 // Illithid Slayer1 8-16: Rogue9 // Illthid Slayer2-10 17: Elocator1 // Rogue10 18: Elocator2 // Psion8 19: Elocator3 // Fighter1 20: Elocator4 // Fighter2 Elan is a great race for this. -- N |
| slade_caizer08-30-05, 02:56 AM | Use Illithid Slayer. -- N It probably would have been done if the OP hadn't said he wasn't allowed to multiclass. |
| cvazi08-30-05, 09:11 AM | I would actually chose psi-warrior wilder. You already have the armor prof's, the weapon prof's, the feats and the power versitility. Now you need power points to fuel all your power. Wilders with thier surge ability allows you to conserve AND limit break on both your wilder and your psi-warrior powers. Personally though, I would chose wilder-fighter. You don't need all the powers offered by the psi-warrior. My off the cuff build: Human Wilder20/Fighter20 (since we are not allowed to multiclass) Feats (in order): Point Blank, Psicrystal Affinity(singleminded), Power Attack, Precise Shot, Shield Bash, TWF, OS-TWF, EK: Empathic Transfer, Weapon Focus, Weapon Spec, EK: Danger Sense, Greater Weapon Focus, Improved TWF, EK: Schism, Greater Weapon Specialization, EK: Metaphysical Weapon, Greater TWF, EK: Dispelling Buffer, [2 extra feats] Powers (Not EK'd): Vigor, Crystal Shard, Share Pain, Mental Barrier, Intellect Fortress, Dimension Door, Dispel Psionics, Energy Conversion, psychic reformation: [replace shield bash with feat of your choice, Dimension Door for Force Screen, Psionic Greater teleport in place of reformation], True Metabolism, Empty Mind By level 7, You will have the share pain + vigor + psicrystal combo AND you can heal you allies with empathic transfer By Level 9, You have Uncanny Dodge and can Bring up your mental barrier to protect yourself and Intellect Fortress to protect your allies. By level 12, You will be taking full attack, + blasting others/buffing yourself By level 15, you can sell off your weapons and have +5 weapons all day and bring forth EPIC (+6) level weapons if you need them By level 18, you are power attacking with 2 of your favored weapons, and have a shield bonus greater than the normal +7 Max By level 20, you have EPIC (+6) weapons all day long, and your all day buffs cannot be dispelled (and have a really hard time being disjuntioned). I would suggest Adamantium Full Plate ASAP, and after your reformation, pick up 2 deep crystal weapons. Edit: After the reformation (switch shield bash for dodge), use your last 2 feats for mobility and elusive target. |
| Erudite08-30-05, 09:45 AM | I'd go Erudite 10/Illithid Slayer 10 AND Psywarrior 15/Elocator 5 BAB +17 Good Saves Decent HD Extra Power Points Utility powers and Combat powers Psywarrior covers Erudite's limited ability to manifest more than four different powers of levels 1-6, which increases the flexibility of the Erudite. Erudite aids Psywarrior by being able to learn as many powers as he can (unlike Psion or Wilder), and can conceivable have any power for any situation. He can use the Pychic Reformation/Powerstone trick to get any power level 8 or lower, and can find psions to rip off or learn level 9 powers from, if the game is psi heavy (Eberron, Athas). Plenty of feats as well. |
| cvazi08-30-05, 09:56 AM | you'll be able to take full advantage of their Resiliance ability. Resilience is a horrible ability for a psi-gish. Because it is an immediate action, you can only activate it once per turn (so only a 2/- DR for 1 turn) and more importantly, you cannot activate other immediate actions like temporal acceleration, mental barrier and tower of intellect. Edit: Oops, Ignore the above they changed it from the xph version. . . But taht is still only for one hit per turn. I still would not use it. |
| PhaedrusXY08-30-05, 10:43 AM | But taht is still only for one hit per turn. I still would not use it. :uh-huh: Negating all the damage from one attack per round as an immediate action is a great ability, if you can afford the power point cost. And some of these psion/psywarrior gestalts certainly could. |
| cvazi08-30-05, 10:55 AM | I would rather have the extra feat (if defense oriented: build towards elusive target instead) AND crank up my AC (Mental Barrier) or stop a Horrid wilting/mass damage spell from slaughtering my allies (Intellect Fortress) or grant protection vs mind control for my fellow tanks (Tower of Iron Will) or Teleport (hustle + Dimensional Door/Slide/Swap) or take a full attack at the end of my charge (Psionics Lion Charge) or conserve my pp with evade burst or unleash a quickened offensive power. Resilience is good, there are just much better options out there to spend your ONE immediate action on. |
| Noti Animboa08-30-05, 02:19 PM | wow a lot came in after i logged off, id like to ask a couple of questions then , first of all i dont entirely understand whats great about wilder and secondlydo the PP/day from each class combine for my total? and if so do i get my stat bonuses on each pp reservethereby boubling the bonus or is that only once? |
| cvazi08-30-05, 02:36 PM | First off: I love me some Wilders. Mmmm-Mmmm goodness. If you want versitility and wear 2 hats in the party (offensive caster+warrior) yes, go with the psion/warrior mixture. If you want to be the beefiest, nastiest gish out there go with the wilder. You do not need too many powers to apply the hurting to the opponent- and the wilder provides most of them. As for class abilities, the wild-surge ability allows you to boost you manifester level. This increases duration and strength of all of your powers. Wild Surge also gives you free power points so you can stay in the fight longer. It also makes your powers harder to dispel. The surging euphoria class ability gives you + to hit and + to damage bonuses (+3 to each at level 20)- which is why I suggested a TWF style. The elude touch gives your Cha bonus to your touch AC. Rules questions: Yes, PP from all your classes pool. Yes, You get bonus pp for high stats on both your classes. |
| catharz08-30-05, 02:51 PM | Druid/Psychic Warrior =Twin spellcasting progressions based on Wisdom. =Ultimate in both spontaneity and preparation. =Bonus feats. =Ability to use most psionic and magic items. =Access to most of the best buffs in the game. =Wildshape + Force screen + Hostile empathic transfer. -Doesn't get full BAB, but Divine Power can remedy that. -Only gets two good saves. If you're going to play a psychic warrior, multi it with druid. Cleric would be a vastly different flavor, but cool too. If you aren't set on playing a psychic warrior, there are a number of other good psionic options, many of which have already been stated. |
| Noti Animboa08-30-05, 02:51 PM | AWESOME!!! i like that idea now that i have read and know more aout the wilder i = happy esp. since the power pools combine...should i still be an elan even if i go the wildre route? or should i take human for the feat? |
| cvazi08-30-05, 03:04 PM | should i still be an elan even if i go the wildre route? or should i take human for the feat? Discussion between PhaedrusXY and myself on this topic are above. |
| PhaedrusXY08-30-05, 03:29 PM | Yes, You get bonus pp for high stats on both your classes. The SRD entry for the Psionic Fist contradicts this. Bonus power points from having a high ability score can be gained only for the character’s highest psionic class.Also... I think the Wilder class is signifigantly weaker than either the psion or psywarrior. It loses alot from not having access to the Discipline powers like a psion does, and doesn't have the bonus feats to pick up those feats using Expanded Knowledge. |
| slade_caizer08-30-05, 03:32 PM | When it comes to gestalt I just keep two (or more) separate pools of points. It works for a Wizard/Sorcerer; it seemed reasonable for a Psion/Wilder or whatever. |
| PhaedrusXY08-30-05, 03:33 PM | When it comes to gestalt I just keep two (or more) separate pools of points. It works for a Wizard/Sorcerer; it seemed reasonable for a Psion/Wilder or whatever.Good point. I guess for Gestalt they would get bonuses from both. |
| cvazi08-30-05, 03:34 PM | huh. same with the warmind. I guess you are right. Edit: Well, SOMEBODY'S GOTTA BE RIGHT! |
| Noti Animboa08-30-05, 03:39 PM | well now im confused... is wilder worth it or not? i like the wild surge idea, but now that i think about it the druid isnt entirly off limits either. hmmmmm choices, choices, choices... |
| Vainglory08-30-05, 05:32 PM | Psychic Warrior/Monk is also a great combo, both benefit from the same stats and monk can be absolutely amazing with a few extra fighter feats. Check out Mean Liar's monk thread and pick 2-3 feat chains to finish instead of just one most monks get to do. I played one with the trip battlefield control stuff and the mage slayer feat line as well that was a blast. Dimension slide next to a mage and he's pretty much screwed if he doesn't have quickened escape spells prepared. |
| carnivore08-30-05, 05:42 PM | Druid/Psychic Warrior =Twin spellcasting progressions based on Wisdom. | AlienFromBeyond08-30-05, 06:48 PM | When it comes to gestalt I just keep two (or more) separate pools of points. It works for a Wizard/Sorcerer; it seemed reasonable for a Psion/Wilder or whatever. Why would you do that? Power points go into one big pool that can be used by any part of the character that manifests. Wizard and Sorcerer don't mix in non-gestalt, so they don't in gestalt either. Psionics is different though ;). |
| Nifft08-30-05, 08:30 PM | It probably would have been done if the OP hadn't said he wasn't allowed to multiclass. D'oh! Foolish Nifft! :( Oh well, now I'll try to be helpful. Scout // Egoist Better skills and special abilities than a Ranger, and nothing useless (no spells or animals). Almost as many Bonus Feats as a PsiWar -- more, if you include Psion Bonus Feats. Almost all good saves -- note Battle Fortitude. You get goodies every level. Skirmish works very well with Hustle, and both together work exceptionally well with Metamorphosis. Your Scoutly fast movement will stack with Speed of Thought. Damn, now I want to play one of these guys... :) -- N |
| Zemyla08-30-05, 09:19 PM | Egoist/Psychic Rogue (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040723b). Lots of power points (both based on Int), lots of skills, and fairly good attack skills (including sneak attack). Plus, your psionic feats apply to both sides. I was thinking of playing one myself. |
| Noti Animboa08-31-05, 06:40 PM | (sorry it's been a while my comp has been virused  and is now dead :weep: ) man that druid keeps looking better and better...a lot of work but i like the potential, or even the cleric wouldnt be bad...if he was a cleric whats the best deity for evil dragons(warshiper of dragons and their dieties)? i can also use a prestiege class as one of the gestalt classes and probably talk my dm into letting me switch after ten...if i live that long. man you guys really helped out on this one now i have too many to choose form...i dont know what i'll do. but thank you all for the help and any suggestions are always welcome! EDIT:in our group when we use prestege classes for gestalt we (unless it's rediculous) ignore the prereqs. thank you, noti animboa |
| Noti Animboa08-31-05, 07:57 PM | in fact i just spoke to a friend of mine and psy warrior is not neccisary it is just prefered that i take one psionic class. EDIT: here's what i have so far please criticise as necisary, Fighter/psy-warior half-giant (LOTS OF FEATS!!) or a psy-warior/druid human im a big fan of meele so the fighter/psy war is looking much better to me, flavor and fun wise but i think the druid/psy war has more power. if you see any flaws please alert me. |
