Best healing and tanking character. [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-22-05, 10:40 PM OK without going into too much. I need to make the best healing AND tanking character I can. We will start at 8 in all stats with 24 points to buy stats. I am open as to Race ect. We will be starting out at 4th level and I will likely have to be the tank for the group atleast for the first oh...4-5 levels before the person playing the Stonechild can take up tanking duties.

11-22-05, 11:10 PM Hmm...At low levels, it's tough to do both.
Druid might be your best bet; your animal companion can tank at low levels.

11-22-05, 11:12 PM Dwarven cleric. If you can, I'd suggest shooting for the Divine Metamagic: Persistent route.

11-22-05, 11:35 PM Normally, I'd be all for a DM: Persistant cleric for the healing/tanking combination, but I don't think it's appropriate in this case. He seems to especially need tanking at low levels; clerics don't really tank well at levels 1-4.

A low level cleric still makes a good tank. From levels 1-4 he'll only be 1 BAB behind the full BAB classes, he has his heavy armor, decent hps (and the ability to cure himself), and some good low level buffs. And once he doesn't need to be the tank anymore he can focus on being a spellcaster instead.

His feats are wrong, for a start. His stats are in the wrong place. Not that it can't be done, and Clerics are good secondary tanks at low levels. But a Druid's animal compainion is a better tank at low levels. And druid buffs are at least as good at low levels.

11-23-05, 12:15 AM I like the druid the most...If your DM lets you, you might want to take that feat in Unearthed Arcana that gives you turn/rebuke undead, though that isn't strictly kosher. With that and DM: Persistent, you could really kick some arse.
