| stmunks10-06-06, 06:50 PM | The title says it all... is there any way to make a Kobold a good melee based character, not just an adequate one, while still remaining a kobold (i.e. no polymorphing for a more combat effective form)? |
| FriendlyFrog10-06-06, 07:00 PM | What books are you limited to? Are templates OK? An old Mineral warrior (Underdark) Kobold Fighter 4 (ECL 5 character) with all the racial substitutions levels from Races of the Dragons and the feat Dragonwrought from the same book has stat adjustments of +2 Dex, +2 Con, and some other good abilities like damage reduction 8/Adamantine and +4 natural armor. I think this would be a pretty effective melee warrior, for a Kobold at least. |
| GaffeR10-06-06, 07:23 PM | This might violate your "no polymorphing" rule, but the best Kobold warrior I've seen was by someone on this board (forgot the name!). Basically he was a Changeling with the feat Racial Emulation from Races of Eberron. He went fighter 4 and took the 2nd and 4th level substitution levels for +2 Strength and Con. Then he took Warshaper for 2 levels to get another +4 Strength and Con. The end result is a big "Kobold" with +6 Str and +6 Con over 6 levels, as well as "Dragon" claws/jaws/tail. I think the story was that the Changeling was part of an adventuring party who attacked a Kobold camp and got slaughtered, so he has blended in and became their martial champion. Chameleon would be a decent PrC after Warshaper. However, you'd have to push Racial Emulation to level 3. This shouldn't be a problem if you're a Changeling Fighter 4, the way I read it. |

| X-Codes10-06-06, 08:41 PM | This looks like a good place to post this query... Would a Kobold, having taken Stoneblessed (Gnome) levels, be able to use his Slight Build ability to be more effective than the Stabbity Death Killer Gnome? |
| PhoenixInferno10-06-06, 08:45 PM | On that same note, what would stop a Pixie or Petal from doing the same thing? |

Hey, the idea is funny enough. It wouldn't be just any kobold, either, but a Dragonwrought kobold with Wings! After finishing the Stoneblessed class he'd probably look like a miniature Gargoyle. |

Would a Kobold, having taken Stoneblessed (Gnome) levels, be able to use his Slight Build ability to be more effective than the Stabbity Death Killer Gnome? It would work pretty well, I think. It would lose Titan fighting, but I think that getting rid of the dependency on magic items beats that anytime. |
| X-Codes10-07-06, 04:32 AM | It would work pretty well, I think. It would lose Titan fighting, but I think that getting rid of the dependency on magic items beats that anytime. If you mean that thing that changes the racial bonus to dodge against giants to apply against all creatures larger than you, Stoneblessed gives that. |
| FriendlyFrog10-07-06, 04:47 AM | If you mean that thing that changes the racial bonus to dodge against giants to apply against all creatures larger than you, Stoneblessed gives that. You're right! I must be blind, when I earlier tried to see if it gives you that dodge bonus I looked right at the text but my brains still didn't register it... |
| X-Codes10-07-06, 04:56 AM | Anyone who wants to make a Kobold Blade Bravo go ahead... now that ToB is out I can't decide on what to fill the other 7 levels with. :P |
| Sikyanakotik10-07-06, 09:28 PM | Personally, a kobold Shadow Sun Ninja (Tome of Battle) would probably kick ass. Both Shadow Hand and Setting Sun have techniques for making weak, quick characters far more potent in melee, and your darkvision helps with some of the class' darkness-based abilities. |
| ninjarabbit10-07-06, 09:56 PM | A kobold sorcerer-gish probably would be the best way to go. |
