Best LA +1 Template for a Caster (Sorc/Cleric) [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-19-05, 12:19 PM Just what the topic says. Due to some quirks of Char gen, I can add a +1 LA template for absolutely no cost in actual levels, so I'm really looking for just anything that gives me some sort of useful bonuses. (And I'm aware there may not actually even *be* any LA +1 templates that don't penalize mental stats)

Allowed books are Core, anything FR, MM2&3, and the environmental books.

10-19-05, 12:31 PM Too bad DragonLance isn't on your list - White Dragonspawn is widely recognized to be an excellent LA +1 template for sorcs.

Of course, if all else fails, Aasimar is always a good option for a cleric.

10-19-05, 12:31 PM Personally, i like the Draconic template from Draconomicon (p.150).
Basically, it adds natural armor, bonuses to Str, Con and Cha, some natural weapons , skill bonuses and darkvision!
All that for a +1 LA.
Works great for a sorcerer!

Aasimar is a race, rather than a template. I can add a template, but can't change my race.

Anywho, the template is the deathtouched template from Dragon(313?), it grants darkvision, +2 wis, +4 cha, chill touch(1/day), skill bonuses and some resistances(can't remember). All of this for the low low price of LA+1. :D

10-19-05, 01:49 PM Shadow Walker (Unapproachable East) gives you +2 Int -- could be wrong on that -- and a bunch of shadowy powers. A -2 hit to Con, though, which is tough on a caster.

Half-Fey (Fiend Folio) would be good if you can sell your DM on the book. +4 Cha, +2 Wis, charm person at will, wings, DR, immune to enchantment ...

10-19-05, 01:50 PM Another great dragon magazine template is the shadow creature... sure it's a +2 LA... but it grants you TOTAL CONCEALMENT when in any illumination but full-sunlight. According to the definition of total concealment you don't even have to make a hide check to remain hidden. Plus it grants insane (+6) racial bonus to your Move Silently... it's the best template for a sneaky character, which could really help improve your sorcerer's longevity.

10-19-05, 02:16 PM You can find the Shadow Template in the Manual of the Planes, which you can grab the 3.5 update for from the Wizards site.

I could swear I actually saw it somewhere else recently, in one of the new books (MM3?) but I couldn't tell you for sure.

10-19-05, 04:21 PM Multi-Headed(SS) has an LA of +2 for 1 extra head, and the LA just keeps going up the more heads you add.

it also adds 2 racial hit dice per head, so it works out to be ECL +4 for 1 extra head.

Deathtouched are awesome. Go with that. Phrenic is cool if you can swing a +2 LA, but from the sounds of it, deathtouched is your best bet.

Don't have the book on me, but they have some nifty racial abilities that mirror the "luck" domain power and have a +2 cha/+2 Con -2 str and some good spell-like abilities.
