Hey a friend of mine wanted to make an awsome leader starting from level one. I was wondering what the best pogression was. Not only for the most followers but also the best boosters of followers. I have access to most 3.0 books. as well as most of the 3.5 books I was thinking half orc(or orog) ftr/clr/orcwarlord/warmaster/war priest
ftr for feats to make him decent in combat. I may think of changing this for bard for his abilities to lead. orc warlord so he can get more followers. war master for leadership buff and war priest to buff the guys around him
any help will be apreciated

You want Marshall. And Exempler.

Bards are okay at this.

There's this big glaring problem with a Half-Orc, though, which is its CHA penalty.

Uhm... there are a bunch of feats to improve leadership.

heres a build I'm going to suggest. and as funny as it sounds it doesnt actually take leadership but gets 3 cohorts and twice the followers.
XXpsionic classXX 5/ thrallherd 10/marshal 5
thrallherd gives us 2 cohorts and normal followers.
then at level 6 we take undead leadership and get another cohort and another set of followers. dont know much about psionics but I'm sure someone on the board would be happy to min max the build for. Id also suggest seeing if one could add more flavor to the build by using arcane spell casting to qualify so you could go with a more necromantic flavor. if you can Id go with
dred necromancer (from heroes of horror) 10/ thrallherd 10.
take many of the undead creation boosting feats like corpse crafter and what not and then make sure your cohorts have them as well and are necros as well. that way not only do you get cohorts and followers but undead minions and and undead minions for your cohorts. thats alot of people following you around.

I'm going to go at this a little bit differently then most.

Blooded One/Mineral Warrior Half Ogre Psionic Warrior 5/Thrallherd 10/War Hulk 3

It's similiar to deathwishjoe's build in that you get 3 cohorts due to Thrallherd and Undead Leadership as well as a buttload of followers, but gets better with the addition of the feat Might Makes Right, from Races of Faerun. This little feat is quite the goldmine for a Leader type character, as it allows a character to ADD his str modifier to his cha modifier when it comes to attracting followers. Hence why you go with the BO/MW Half Ogre, lot's of tasty bonuses to str with a tiny hit to charisma. Add in War Hulk to get an additional +6 to leadership as well as your enhanced ability to give damage and you have yourself a leader of the Horde :D

wasn't there some kind of gruumsh PRC, like eye of gruumsh, or something, that let you become a big ol' leader of half orcs and such?

Nope. There's Orc Warlord in RoF that gives you 300 percent more followers, but you have to be an orc of half orc. If you wanted to go that route, you could go Blooded One/Min War Half Orc PsyWar 5/Thrallherd 10/Orc Warlord 3 (which gives you the maximum follower stuff), though your str mod won't be as high.

you can not take leadership with Thrall Herd. while you specified undead leadership I do not think it matters. I would think that Thrall Herd is better than normal leadership for the constant regeneration of its thralls and followers.

my build. since the XPH specifically tells us what is allowed to affect the Leadership score for a Thrall Herd.

so here it is Psion (telepath) 4/Half Elf Paragon 3/Human Paragon 3/ Thrallherd 10

not necessarily in that order.

Character level + Cha mod +thrallherd level
and that is IT.

there are no modifiers for it. the DMG mods do not effect it.

I'm inclined to agree that Undead Leadership and Thrallherd levels don't work together.

My question is, does that also apply to Dragon Cohort from the Draconomicon?

The feat entry itself seems to say that you get a cohort out of no-where and it doesn't make a difference whether you have leadership or not, but the explanation under dragon cohorts for leadership is vague enough that it might just give you three extra ECL for you cohort (if you have leadership and pick a dragon cohort), and that might blow your pet dragon over the normal limit for a cohort.

A thrallherd cannot take the Leadership feat; if the character already has it, the feat is lost and replaced by this ability;
this is a quote directly from the thrallherds description in the SRD. it specifically mentions the leadership feat and not leadership like feats. undead leadership is not the leadership feat and is therefor legal according to RAW. wether or not a GM would allow it is another matter as it seems the spirit of the law was to disallow stacking of cohorts and followers. Id just suggest that we make sure the DM is okay with it but it is legal.

according to RAW the dragon cohort should be perfectly legal as you describe it.
