Pun-Pun. He's infinitely powerful. Thread over.

Questions like this, without any limitations, are pointless.

Well, in terms of who makes out the best at level 5, it'd probably either be a Druid, who gets third level spells and Wild Shape, or a Specialist Wizard 3/Master Specialist 2, as MS2 is when you get your first school esoterica.

Really, 5 levels only allows for about 3 or 4 prestige classes. I'd say Wizard 3/Master Specialist 2 is one of the better ones. Not much to do with 5 levels except cheese or simple, straight builds.

EDIT: My example has been ninja'd!

For starters, what does "best" even mean in this question? "Best" implies some sort of quality, but since you don't specify any quality, the question is meaningless.

Just use 3rd edition and up materials.

Ah, ok, just that then. That should only be a few hundred hard cover books or so for starters. What other materials could one use, if the goal is to make an even remotely legal and acceptable build? 2nd edition material? 1st edition material? How do they even mix?

I think the best level 5 character is any NPC, as long as you're the DM.

No it isn't. You get your first school esoterica at 4th. At 2nd, you get a bonus spell added to your spellbook.

level 5 druid with a flesh raker pet, that wildshapes into a fleshraker, and has the natural spell feat... just rediculous

Another fun one, is a tibbit cleric, with the cat domain...

Cast one of the harm spells, and then polymorph yourself. Hold the charge. Sneak up to your enemy. They will be "oh its a housecat, so cute, lets pet it" and then you paw at their hand as they try to pet you. The pawing releases a harm spell, and they instantly die. The end.

Commoner 5 with wealth/level of a PC (not an NPC), who invested half his gold into cows to stampede at people, the other half to turn to salt with the funds garnered from all the stampede victims. W00t, rich commoner! Ph34r me.

Be a butterfly (1/8 hit dice) and use the special ability: "The butterfly effect"

Then go flutter around and crush other kingdoms with hurricaines.

Dire butterflys destroy worlds.
