Ok heres the story, I havent played Dnd in a long time (almost a year). recently I got back in and am in the process of creating a new character. The DM wants me to create a lvl 8 character. He has almost every book, and is allowing the use of them all. So what I am asking for is the most powerful lvl 8 you can help me build. Any classes, races, feats, and prestige classes. If there are any good low level acheivable exploits or tricks I would love to hear them. Please help me, and let the munchkinism begin!!!!

EDIT: Also i forget to mention, He said I have 4000 gp to buy eqpuipment and also get two +1 magical items or effects on items or one +2 effect or item. Plz help me! (I enjoy playing any type of class, and am not a complete munchkin. But I would love to have a munchkinish character that I can use my roleplaying skills and make interesting, and still own in battle with)

There is no "most powerful character" of a certain level. Sure, there are things that are more effective than others, but trying to quantify things like that is difficult.

I would say that you should read through the 3.5 Build FAQ (at the top of the forum) and the Optimization Library (in my signature). Tell us if you are partial to any particular class or role, i.e. you think being a bone-crushing frontliner would be fun, or the idea of a druid who is able to summon allies and turn into fearsome animals makes you all warm and fuzzy (pun only slightly intended) inside.

However, in general, the primary casters (wizard, cleric, druid, sorceror) are accepted as being very powerful, growing exponentially more so as your level and the number of books (and thereby spells) you have increase.

I have played most classes in my time of playing DnD. My favorites were always wizards until i tryed other classes and enjoyed then just as much. So I am no longer really partial to a certain class. Although playing a caster class will probably be more fun for me. By "most powerful" I am really looking for a lot of synergy or some exploits that result in great power. I know there is no truely "most powerful" character. I am jsut looking for a "very powerful" level 8 build that uses some time of exploit or great synergy to have the result of great power. Whether this power be a tank that does MASSIVE amounts of damage, or a caster that uses some exploit with his spells to maek an extremely powerful effect. It does not matter to me. I will check out both of the things you said I should check out.

If you do a search, a lot of people think a druid is the most powerful character. If you start at 8th level, he already gets to shapechange into large creatures. I'd probably have to agree it's the most powerful class if Masters of the Wild is allowed. Some of that seems over-the-top, kinda like a fighter using a spiked chain.

2 more levels and if he is a shifter he can become something like a spike chainer only as a roper with 50 foot reach 6 ropes and 2d8 str drain.

Ok well I got a little more info. The party already has a cleric, and another person that doesn't know what he wants. So I'm thinking either some kind of insane tank that uses some kind of exploits (I love any kind of exploits and ways to abuse the rules), or some type of crazy caster (exploits of course).

True. I do know how to make a character and I do know whats good. I am not jsut looking for advice on whats good. I have 8 lvls, up to +2 in magical items, and 4000 gp. Should I just turn this into a contest? I could just make a normal lvl 8 character, but I wanna try to find some exploits. I'm mostly just looknig for some type of loopholes or amazing synergy to build a character around. So since you all know I have to work with, let the designing begin!

well if you start at lvl 8, that will take care of the early game weakness of this character-

venerable jermlaine1/monk1/druid6

feats-
lvl 1 Sacred Vow
lvl 3 Vow Of Poverty
lvl 6 Natural Spell

For your Vow of Poverty feats, I would go exalted wildshape, exalted animal companion and definantly insightful strike.

Just drop everything into wisdom and maybe keep like a 15 int and charisma, the rest can go to squat.

a venerable jermlaine gets a +9 bonus to wisdom. So that gives you a starting wisdom of 27. Add that in to the Vow of Poverty boost and your stat bumps and you are looking at a 31 wisdom. Thats not too shabby when you add wisdom to attack and AC even in wildshape.

This build also allows you to not be funneled into ape forms. Which is a plus. And has quite a bit of flavor.

I dont know how good this build is at level 8, but after lvl 10 it gets pretty awesome:

Wiz 5/ Mind Bender 1/ Ur Priest 2/ Master of Shrouds 1/ True Necromancer 1/ Mystic Theurge 7/ Archmage 3

For synergies, how about Snow Savant's "Gattling Chain Gun" Tripper (http://boards.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=163005)?

Near the end of that thread, I posted an alternate early build with a 1 level Swashbuckler dip for extra frontloading. :D

If you take Fighter 4/Swashbuckler 1/Psychic Warrior 2/??? 1, you'll already have enough feats for the exotic reach weapon/Combat Reflexes/Hold the Line/Sidestep/Improved Trip nastiness, plus Spring Attack and room for one level of whatever (Fighter, if you want to progress towards Karmic Strike and/or hitting twice with each Attack of Opportunity).

Edit:
To clarify what this build does:
* With a starting Dex of 18, you'll have 5 attacks of opportunity a round.
* You'll have reach, so you threaten out to 10', and the various chains also threaten at 5' range.
* With Hold the Line, you take Attacks of Opportunity starting when your enemies enter this 10' radius, and anytime they move within it (except for the normal exemptions).
* Sidestep lets you move after you take your AoO, so unless your opponent has longer reach than you, they don't get to attack you at all.
* Of course, if you use your AoOs to Trip, Improved Trip lets you hit them an extra time for free...

wow great so far this is exactly the kind of things I'm looking for. We will be playing this coming Sunday, so I need to figure it out by then. Keep it up!
