So I just dumped my Sorc/Elemental Savant/Frost mage build, when I found out my DM allowed Precocious Apprentice to qualify for Arcane Heirophant. He also lowered the BAB to +3, meaning I can qualify at Wiz1/Druid5. So I am playing a Wiz1/Druid5/AH1 at the start of this adventure.

I'm having trouble picking a good animal companion to be my companion familiar. I've thought about just stick with Wolf, since it wont be adjusted at all. Then the options of leopard and clawfoot (Eberron CS) came up, as well as black bear.

What is the best way to go? I want a good melee combatant that can wade in and kick some ass when I buff it up, as well as something that can act as bodyguard.

I've considered clawfoot, and (when I am high enough) hitting it with Animal Growth for a mount, but that seems like a waste since I wont have any mounted feats. Usually as a Druid, I just skip the animal companion all together, but a major class feature of the AH is to combine your familiar and companion into 1 beast.

Or should I just wait another level and pick up a tiger?
