Asnys 09-29-06, 11:32 PM	I am working on a wizard character, focused (but not specialized) on enchantment. The basic idea is lots of save-or-lose spells, plus possibly metamagicked enervation cheese. If this was 3.0, she would be taking Red Wizard and Archmage for the DC bonuses. Now, I am trying to plan this build out ahead like a good little min/maxer, and am trying to decide which prestige class(es) to go into. None of the ones I have seen really seem to mesh well with the concept-unless you count Mindbender, which I am not going to give up 5 caster levels to take all 10 levels of. Fatespinner looks like it has some nice abilities, but I am not really convinced it is worth it. So, which prestige class(es) should I take? I would prefer to avoid 1- or 2-level dips, but am open to persuasion on the subject. However, there is a problem: I have none of the 3.5 books. I have almost all of the 3.0 ones, but none of the newer ones. I do have a little cash, however, and can afford to buy the 3.5 Player's Handbook II (for Arcane Thesis) and one-or, at most, two-of the other new books. Of course, if whatever you recommend happens to be in the old 3.0 books, that would be great. :)

You named the only two I was going to recommend, both of which have been updated in Complete Arcane. CA is my personal favorite 3.5 purchase. However, I'm extremely biased to arcane casters... Mindbender is really good for 1 whole level. Possibly viable through 3rd, but that's only because I think Mindread is a cool ability. You are no longer required to take Leadership and can, therefore, qualify by 5th lvl. Fatespinner is one of the only 3.5 classes that can increase saving throw DCs. They streamlined it into a pretty good 5 level class with 4/5 caster progression and easy entry requirements. Something like Wiz 5/Mindbender 3/Fatespinner 4 would fit quite nicely, IMO. What to suffix the build with is where I'm having trouble. Archmage/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil maybe? I dunno... Either way...just my 2 cp
lonewolf 09-30-06, 08:52 AM	Incantatrix. Its still one of the best Wizard PrC and specializing in Metamagic works reasonably well with Enchantments. The 3.5 version is in the Players Guide to Faerun.

From what I have heard of Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil, it sounds like a really powerful prestige class, but one that would not synergize very well with this. I am almost certainly going to take Archmage for at least one or two levels-an exception to the "avoid 1-level dips" guideline. Incantatrix. Dragon3 09-30-06, 02:25 PM	You can grab the prestige class you want if you grab psycarnum infusion and midnight metamagic from magic of incarnum. You can put up to 4 slots of metamagic on a spell by expending a psionic focus on midnight metamagic. Get around that infuse essentia once per day limit. Of course this can get sick with incanatrix but you can take any prestige class now.
