| PH3NOmenon09-17-05, 04:33 AM | Try looking into Dragon Disciple PrC. I've seen some builds use it to some amount of succes. |
| jstorrie09-17-05, 05:37 AM | The best PrC for Hexblade is Hexblade. Try Hexblade 10 / Hexblade 10. Seriously. Unless you're only dipping into Hexblade for Mettle you should take all twenty levels. It's just 'one of those' classes. Like artificer, but not as awesome. |
| X-Codes09-17-05, 06:00 AM | Yes, it's one of those "prestige classes that people wanted to start doing immediately so WotC stretched it out into a crummy 20-level progression" class. Good things to compliment the dip, though, are Shadowdancer (evasion and such), Dragon Disciple (Beatstick powers activate), and Blackguard (double charisma bonus to saves + divine feats). Any other PrC's you might take would be based more on the other classes involved than the Blackguard itself. |
| Eidolon Faer09-17-05, 08:55 AM | Blackguard A 2-level Rogue dip for Sneak Attack (for Arterial Strike) and Evasion. A 1-level Mindbender dip to get Telepathy and Mindsight, and Fort Saves. Knight Phantom Master Transmogrifist (esp if planning to go Epic) |
| MechaboyDos09-17-05, 10:31 AM | I was pondering the idea of a Hexblade/Bonded Summoner (with Education to help with Knowledge requirements). That way you'd end up with an Elder Elemental that actually has a decent number of hit points instead of a crappy half a Wizard/Sorcerer's HP. |
| Xzoltar09-17-05, 11:39 AM | I will say Hexblade 13 / Rogue 2 / Occult Slayer 5 or Hexblade 18 / Rogue 2 That's not really optimized, but you really need to get Evasion with the Hexblade, because it really worth it, you probably have really good save vs magic, so you will always dodge fireball and other spells that require a saving throw... Occult Slayer give really good bonus for a figther type ( Non-detection & Mindblank ) , you will never be good enough in magic, so the lose in caster level is not that much of a problem, and be sure to take Arcane Strike for those time that the spell you memorize is not good in this situation and you need more power in your attacks... |
| ninjarabbit09-17-05, 12:19 PM | 1 level of cleric for armor, turning, and 2 domain abilities 3 levels of blackguard for rebuking, armor, dark blessing, and aura of dispair 4 levels of dragon disciple for +2 natural armor, +4 str, 4d12 hit dice, and extra spell slots fatespinner |
| obrysii09-17-05, 12:24 PM | My Bullywug Hexblade 4/Talon of Tiamat 10/Dragon Disciple 6 build might not have a whole lot of min/max power, but at level 8, he had 143hp :D |
| Gerdreg09-17-05, 12:42 PM | Green Star Adept isn't bad. Hexblade 10/ Green Star Adept 10 will give you +17 BAB, CL 15(read the Green Star desciption for this bit of synergy), and almost eliminate one of the Hexblades biggest weaknesses, Fort saves. As above, Mindebender 1 isn't a bad dip, and Master Transmogrifist can be good in an Epic campaign. A 4 level dip in Bloog Mage will give you more access to your spells via Scarification and Blood Drought. The Rogue trick not explained above is the Aterial Strike/ Cursed Blade combo. It will create unhealable bleeding wounds. Add Vicious attack from SS and you can generate some serious bleed damage. I read in another thread that someone really enjoyed a Hexblade/ Enlightended Fist. There is some synergy with Fist of Energy, Ascetic Mage (the damage part doesn't require Sorcerer) and Arcane Strike. I personally am not a big fan of Dragon Disciple and Acolyte of the Skin as imo the class abilities do not make up for the loss of spells and BAB. The Hexblade spell list is actually very good and complements a Gish character well. Don't forget to take a look at the new Hexblade spells in CA and CV. |
| PonTelon09-17-05, 01:17 PM | Rogue1/Hexblade19 Arterial Strike to get rid of your 1d6 sneak attack damage for 1 bleed damage. Now cast Cursed Blade on your blade and use this. That is 1 bleed damage per attack that cannot be healed until someone casts Remove Curse on the target first. How many clerics do you know who prepare that one? I love this for the whole "OMG THE BLEEDING, IT WILL NOT STOP" factor. Have fun. =) |
| Lorimo the Disbeliever09-17-05, 04:05 PM | Thrall of Demogorgon fits perfectly. =E |
| Bud Green09-17-05, 05:14 PM | Think I'll go with Hexblade 10/Rogue 2/Green Star Adept 8 That assumes the DR from Green Star Adept stacks with armor of invulnerability (which I already have). My character is currently a level 10 hexblade who is only used in an Arena setting (PvM, not PvP). Thanks for all the suggestions. |
| hogarth09-19-05, 09:18 AM | I personally am not a big fan of Dragon Disciple and Acolyte of the Skin as imo the class abilities do not make up for the loss of spells and BAB. I don't think the loss of spells due to Dragon Disciple is that bad. Hexblade 20 (w/ 18 Cha) gets 4/4/4/4 and Hexblade 14/DD 6 gets 3/2/2/6; that doesn't seem like a terrible trade-off. The loss of 2 BAB is compensated by +4 Str which seems more or less fair as well. |
| OMAGAN09-19-05, 11:25 AM | hex blade scales so well i would go drow for +2 ecl fighter 2 for fort and feats regardless of what ever weapon you chose hexblade18 so your hex powers rock |
| Zemyla09-19-05, 01:01 PM | I would be terribly remiss if I did not mention Arcane Duelist (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030224a). It gives you Cha to AC after two levels. You lose a point of BAB, but you gain a point of attack bonus with a chosen weapon, so it balances out. |
