| v4l3r1o11-24-05, 09:36 AM | What is, in your opinion, the best prestige class for a wizard and why: 1)10 levels PRC? 2)5 levels PRC? I think that archmege, geometer, fatespinner and recaster are very good 5lev PRC; Incantarix and Dweomerkeeper for 10lev. Any other suggestion? Thank's :) |
| Aramas11-24-05, 10:06 AM | War Weaver is a 5 level class from HoB. It doesn't fit either of your categories, but Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil is a very nice PrC as well. |
| El_Machinae11-24-05, 11:01 AM | There are very few 'good' 10 level PrCs for Arcane Casters, but if you do find one, you often don't need a 'good' 5 level PrC, because hoping around is much better. Often a five level PrC is better to get in and out after a level or two, especially before you lose a caster level. Personally, I like how 'balanced' Loremaster is, but it's certainly not great. Divine Oracle is a favourite with me as well, it's well worth staying in, because every level is better than a level of wizard. I often wish there was an 'arcane theurge' kinda class that progressed casting in two different arcane classes. |
| Timothy Nicolle11-24-05, 01:21 PM | Try a initiate of the 7 fold veil. Or you can multiclass barbarian/warmage. And if you want a okay BAB choose Eldritch Knight. |
| Portuguese D. Ace11-24-05, 01:42 PM | i love a lot of prcs.... Eldicht knight first level of dragonslayer first level of spellsword phantom knight incantatrix RED MAGE and i LOVE warmage -from age of mortals (dragonlance) |
| runestar11-25-05, 05:59 AM | 1) I have always been a personal fan of incantatrix(PGTF version). Roleplayingwise, I wouldn't mind a red wizard or shadow adept. 2) Archmage isn't too bad, despite the harsh prerequisites. Perhaps arcane devotee. |
| X-Codes11-25-05, 07:02 AM | I kinda like Wayfarer Guide. Second level isn't that great, but the first and third levels have some useful abilities for mid-level arcanists tasked with transporting the party around. The second level also doesn't hurt as much as a normal non-progression level until a few levels after the class is completed (15ish or so, really). In other words, theres hardly a single better PrC to tack on your Cohort (especially since it comes in right after the Incantatrix 4 cutoff, probably the second-best point at which to end that PrC). |
| DruidWannabe11-25-05, 09:15 AM | and i LOVE warmage -from age of mortals (dragonlance) Excellent five level PrC if you have that book. |
| OGS-Remix11-25-05, 11:52 AM | Depending on how your DM interprets the errata for Complete Divine, Rainbow Servant is a good 10th level prestige class if you get full spellcasting progression. |
| Iaimeki11-25-05, 12:24 PM | Incantatrix. Initiate of the sevenfold veil. Archmage. Recaster. Fatespinner. There are a few other good PrCs, but they're all for gishes (spellsword, eldritch knight), dips (shadow adept), or specialized builds (shadowcrafter, shadowcraft mage, war weaver). Everything else either sucks or fills levels only (geometer, divine oracle, loremaster). |
| Taliesin5211-26-05, 01:13 AM | Recaster, Incantatrix of course. I'm also a big fan of the... Phantom Mage? The mounted gishy PrC from Five Nations. Initiate of the Seven Fold Veil is also a good one as well. Flavorwise, I think the Apocalypse Mage from Eberron Explorer's Handbook is pretty darn cool. |
| Timlagor11-26-05, 02:54 AM | * Fatespinner is a great *FOUR* level PrC (there is a 5th level but it sucks) * Iot7V is a great 7 level one. * Geometer really isn't that powerful but it has a very nice flavour. * Loremaster is nice for flavour and is quite powerful enough in it's own way: although certainly isn't top tier in straight-up battle-power, it's got very nice skills and knowledge should not be underestimated. * DO is great for 2 levels (esp before Loremaster) and not bad overall. * Blood Magus looks fun. * Incantrix and True Necromancer are silly-powerful from what I've heard of them. |
| Timlagor11-26-05, 02:57 AM | Depending on how your DM interprets the errata for Complete Divine, Rainbow Servant is a good 10th level prestige class if you get full spellcasting progression. It's very clear that you do get full spells. I'd go with Warmage for this one though Text *always* trumps tables in D&D and the errata say so explicitly for that book (and I think for that class too). |
| jstorrie11-26-05, 04:02 AM | Spellguard of Silverymoon is my favourite, though it is Forgotten Realms-specific. |
| v4l3r1o11-26-05, 12:38 PM | War weaver, Spellguard of Silverymoon and Initiate of the sevenfold veil are great. I cannot use Eberron books and i generaly play in forgotten ^_^ What do you think about Olin Gisir from Lost Empires of fearun? |
| v4l3r1o11-27-05, 07:59 AM | What do you think about Olin Gisir from Lost Empires of fearun? Up  |
| v4l3r1o11-28-05, 02:04 AM | Any other sugestion for good PRC? What do you thing about taking some levels to Olim Gisir (LEoF) when you play Incantatrix? O.G. & In. has the same prerequisite and at O.G.1st-level you take an exra feat. |
| v4l3r1o11-28-05, 09:27 AM | Please reply! :( |
| Sir Gummibaerchen11-28-05, 11:50 AM | Well I'd say it has some good synergy, but it is best to take those levels later in your career, when you have the intelligence needed to bick those bonus feats. For a build I'd suggest a Sun Elf Generalist Wizard6/Incantatrix10/Olin Gisir4. Generalist Wizard is the Elf Wizard substitution level, found in Races of the Wild. |
