any book 3.5 or 3.0

best two i could find were:

composite Greatbow:
1d10 (average = 5.5) 20/x3

great crossbow:
2d8 (average = 9) 18-20/x2

Is there a bow out there can do damage comparable to the greatcrossbow?

The greatbow is the best you'll get.

A moon-sized chunk of lead.

Seriously though, Greatbow is the best you'll easily find if you're willing to spend the proficiency.

surprised nothing compares to greatcrossbowUh...the Greatbow? Crossbows don't get iterative attacks which automatically makes them worse than any regular bow.

what does that mean?

what does that mean? You have to reload crossbows as a separate action (heavy crossbows take a full-round action to reload, light crossbows take move actions, etc - read the PHB). Regular bows (longbows, shortbows and their composite versions) let you make iterative attacks (the ones you get from your BAB).

Play a Goliath:
Use a large Greatbow
A Large Greatbow will do damage of: 2d6/20 x3

If that's not close enough to doing Great Xbow damage then you will most likely never be satisified.

orcish shotput.

2d6 @ 19-20X3

take master thrower 5 levels, and this becomes 17-20X4

make it goliath, and it's 3d6.

Call me old fashilned, but I like the good old fashion mundane +4 mighty composite longbow from PHB 3.0 (and 3.5?). And the magic versions of that weapon just gets better. Of course, a mighty composite greatbow might do some more damage, but the longbow is simply the biggest bow my characters can be borthered to carry with them. Hell, I even use mighty composite shortbows when playing stealthy characters.
