Kobold that performs Draconic Rite of PAssage (so almost any PC Kobold I suppose) can have one first level spell from Sorcerer's list as spell like ability.

I'm planning to play this kobold sorcerer and I wonder wich spell to choose. I won't be able to have the same one as Sorcerer's spell known. at 3rd level, it'll be 3/day ability. It should scale, becaouse I want ritual + feat to be usefull at higer levels too.

So, wich spell take?

I took Mage Armor for mine.

Identify is another good one to take.

I havent seen the new spells for PHBII yet.

I did a pretty thorough investigatio of this for a Kobold PC I have made. There are some good choices pointed out by a lot of people.

Identify, Mount, Silent Image, Mage Armor, Grease were all good choices. Ultimately, I decided on Identify for a few reasons: I am currently the only caster in the party, the Rite does not have a limitation on what spell you can take, SLA do not have material component costs. Since I plan to take wings and fly, mount and grease had less impact on my character than it would have otherwise (Though grease was a strong consideration for its high versatility and usefulness). Mage Armor will be obsolete once you have bracers of armor, and silent image, while a strong contender, seemed to have too many limitations. I figure Identify is useful throughout all levels, especially at 3/day for no material cost. It also 'fit' into my background as a counselor for my kobold tribe :)

I plan to take the 4th level Dragonblooded Sorcerer substitution level as well and might pick up Grease as the SLA from that.

I took Mage Armor for mine.Good idea, I would do that if only I wouldn't be affraid that I'll need it a lot more ofthen, especially at levels I will not have money for caster-ok armour/magic protection.

Identify is another good one to take.Thanx :D usefull at all levels, hardly possible that I'll need it more than once... Why the hell I didn't thought about it earlier? :D

I havent seen the new spells for PHBII yet.Neither did I.

Identify, although good, will have less impact on your cash flow past 3rd level or so, when scrolls should be readily available (although it is nice to be able to do it that early). If your DM allows retraining, I'd say go: identify, then retrain to mage armor, then retrain to enlarge person or reduce person (depends on whether you want to be offensive or defensive, yourself). If he doesn't I'd probably go with enlarge person, personally, although shield, unseen servant, silent image, and protection spells are all tempting.

Shield is probably more useful than Mage Armor, since Mage Armor is replaced later on with equipment.

I would have gone Reduce Person except my kobold is Dragonwrought, which turns you into a dragon and makes you ineligible for Reduce Person.

I just can't see needing Unseen Servant multiple times a day myself.

Identify is not so much to avoid the 100gp (Though in a large treasure horde that can add up), but the convenience of it. Identify is used throughout (Assuming you don't have analyzer dweomer) your career and often times you have many things to identify at once.

Certainly not the 'best' choice but for a particular style of play, one of the better ones.

I don't belive retraining will work. I'll probably stay with identify :) so simple...

I agree with Identify.

The best spells to take as a 1/day SLA are:

-Spells you would only use 1/day anyway, even if you had it At Will.
-Spells that will allow you to free up a precious spell slot for something else.

This makes non-combat Utility or Transportation spells the best for SLA abilities.

Mage Armor would be a good choice but it could get dispelled, so it isn't saving you a spell slot.

Shield is a bad choice, as you will want to use it multiple times a day at higher levels (multiple combats).

Well, as was pointed out, mage armour becomes irrelevant as the sorc gets access to bracers of armour. Shield has more staying power unless said sorc has a penchant for animated tower shields. ;)

When I asked, I expected some sort of hit and run, or instant protection. Now I'll no longer look. I wasn't able to find anything better than identify. Thanx you all :D

Saveing up to 100gp (later 300gp) a day is just... Weee :D
Especially that in cities or sth I still can charge this service as other casters - 100gp + my effort ;) No matter that I will not spent those 100gp on pearls :)

I took identify as well, for a few of reasons.

First of all, identify is a huge drain on party resources at low levels.

Second, he's a greedy little dragon trying to reclaim his stolen hoard (filthy gnomes!), and identify was perfect from a flavor standpoint.
