| WombleHunter08-18-05, 05:34 AM | At the moment I'm playing a warmage gish, and I'm thinking of taking Spell Storing weapon. I was wondering what the best spells the warmage could put into his weapon would be - 3rd level or lower, targeted spells only (as per ability description). At the moment my favourites are looking like Shocking Grasp (or Empowered Shocking Grasp), or maybe Magic Missile. And here's a thought - say I put Chill Touch into the weapon (it is a targeted spell, after all): since the spell allows for one touch per level, could I use the weapon to deliver a Chill Touch this many times? All suggestions appreciated. |

| EvilDuck08-18-05, 08:56 AM | Fireball! C'mon, you know you want to... Seriously, scorching ray or vampiric touch is your best bet. |
| WombleHunter08-18-05, 10:08 AM | I too believe that Vampiric Touch is the "classic" weapon spell - however, Warmages don't get it! Travesty! The other problem - fireball and scorching ray aren't Target spells, because their descriptions don't include a "Target:" line. Otherwise I'd be all over that Scorching Ray shi-yazz, yo. I did try to get the Spellsword Channelling ability (has none of the restrictions the weapon enhancement does), but I just don't have enough levels... |
| Arklich08-18-05, 12:46 PM | Wow, they don't get Vampiric Touch? Sux to be y... err... I mean, warmages are even worse than i thought. I usually don't like spells wich the sole purpose is damage. But thats just me. Anyway, maybe a sudden maximized Poison? Althou i'm not sure if you can metamagic the spell that goes into the weapon. Looking at their spell list, i think the Shocking Grasp idea is rather good. No save is always nice. |

| NateNate08-19-05, 08:18 AM | Effects of Metamagic Feats on a Spell: In all ways, a metamagic spell operates at its original spell level, even though it is prepared and cast as a higher-level spell. Therefore, it is still considered a 3rd level spell in all ways, including regarding the Spell Storing property's spell level limit of three for stored spells. You could put a Twinned, Empowered, Rod of Maximized Vampiric Touch into a Spell Storing item, even though it was cast from a 9th level spell slot and would have taken a 12th level spell slot if not for the Rod. Because it still counts as a 3rd level spell. Maximized Shivering Touch (Frostburn), use the Extra Spell feat (CA) to get it onto your spell list. 18 Dex damage, no save. Only creatures with the [cold] subtype and undead aren't affected. This can quite literally disable nearly any creature/PC in the game. For an added boost, use a Lesser Rod of Maximize and cast it with Twin Spell applied, for 36 Dex damage, no save. pwned! The spell must have a casting time of 1 standard action. It doesn't matter if you take a full-round action to spontaneously cast a spell with a metamagic feat applied. If the spell's printed casting time is 1 standard action, the Spell Storing weapon will hold it. That'll teach those biased game designers! |

I strongly believe in the idea that anything PCs can do, DMs can do too, so I'd rather keep Shivering Touch buried and away from my (undead-loving) DM. pwned! LOL! It doesn't matter if you take a full-round action to spontaneously cast a spell with a metamagic feat applied.
