My artificer is going to take the Persistent Spell feat and use the Metamagic Item infusion to Persist spells from an Eternal Wand. What do you think are the best spells from the wiz/sor, bard, and assassin lists to make Persistent? (max spell level is 3rd)

The list so far:
Shield
Wraithstrike
Swift Haste
Instant Search
Instant Locksmith

I'm liking Wraithstrike, Haste, Mage Armor, and Shield just off the top of my head...

With the exception of Wraithstrike, though, none of those are Persist-able.

Now, SWIFT Haste is a valid target, as it's Personal effect.

Wraithstrike is, of course, supremely useful. Also Bladestorm (a third level ranger spell, also in Complete Adventurer) is super nifty, if you expect to be getting into fights with lots of critters. Greater Invisibility is always handy. A spell from Sand Storm, sandform is pretty cool as well. Bless and Prayer are both good if you want to help out your buddies. Instant Search and Instant Locksmith (both from Complete Adventurer) are good if you're the party's trap finder...

Don't forget about the Metamagic Spell Completion ability, though... If you can get your UMD up to about 53 (by 13th level, when you can take ten on UMD checks.) then you can apply Persistent Spell to a Scroll of Timestop. This ability has absolutely no end of uses. Of course, the technique doesn't really hit its prime until you reach 15th level (and can thus make the scroll of timestop yourself).

'Fraid not, Michael, though you wouldn't know it from the spell description; they nixed Timestop as a candidate for Persistent way back in third edition.

Instant Locksmith and Instant Search are, indeed, the bee's knees. My Lockificer is built around these two spells. He's able to search the room, make a spot and listen check, and pick a lock or disarm a trap, all while calmly eating a sandwich. :)

Swift haste was what I meant, sorry about that. I take it "touch" isn't considered a fixed range...but what keeps Shield from being persisted?

Quick question, what book are eternal wands from?

These can be found in the Ebberron Campaign Setting, I think

Well, that's just silly. If they wanted to disqualify timestop from being a valid use of Persistent Spell, they should have errata'ed it, rather than hiding that information in an ages-old FAQ... *Grumble grumble* *incoherent muttering* *grumble*...

silverSo true, how much effort does it take to post an errata page? I think the "unofficial errata" is that Time Stop has an Instantaneous duration, but gives you the 1d4 rounds of effective duration...or something like that...

I hate timestop. Messing with the space-time continuum just gives me headaches.

Anyway, Divine Power is given. Archers would like Arrowmind. If someone has favored enemies then Hunter's Mercy and Exacting Shot would help out. Theres also a few other treats in the Ranger spell list that would be appreciated.

What do you think about Blink?
