My old standby is power attack and Weapon Focus: Great axe.

Are there any better combos? I'm thinking largely in terms of combat, but general utility is also good. I'm thinking of very unsubtle run up to the nearest enemy and hack him to death tactics too.

The official ruleset for the game is 3.5, but I only really know 3.0

I plan on prioritizing attributes something like Con, Dex, Int, Str, Cha, Wis (last two can flip flop, depending on attribute rolls).

I'd go for Power Attack and Cleave, it's a good combo for general fighting and can also lead you into Frenzied Berserker if you want.

As for your stat order, it's a bit odd to say the least. For "hack'em to death tactics", you've got your Str score in 4th place... Perhaps Str Con Dex Wil Int Cha will serve you better.

It's your character, so there must be some reason for a high INT.

That being said, WIS is typically more useful for a Bbn than INT (they already have lots of skill points, and a good number of them run off of WIS). STR is almost always more important than any mental attribute, but I'm of the opinion that DEX and CON are more important than STR for a Bbn (reason being that STR is increased during a rage, but to sustain that, and to live longer, you need a high CON and DEX).

I was thinking along those lines also. Take Jotunbrud as your starting feat to boost those trip attempts even more. It also fits nicely with the character concept.
Wolf Berserker:
@1 Jotunbrud, Power attack
@3 Improved trip,
@6 Knockdown
--> I have not read the lodges section. It might be that wolf berserkers get that impr trip as bonus feat? Otherwise you would need expertise there also.

The stat order of importance is something like:
con, str, dex, int, wis, cha ... weird how that seems to be almost the order they are in character sheet :-)

I think it goes more like:

Str, Con, Dex, Wis, Int, Cha

Str - + to attack and damage, or +(attack*2) to damage with 3.5 power attack

Con - +Level to HP

Dex - +1 to AC

Wis - +1 to Will, Spot, Listen

Int - +4 Skill Points

Cha - + to skills like Intimidate and Handle Animal.

CON is more important than STR for a barbarian.

I would choose Power Attack and Extra Rage.

Then Cleave at 3rd level.

I rolled up stats ofr this character. He ended up with two scores good for +1 bonuses, two scores that confered a -1 penalty, anda 17 and an 11.

I did put Str slightly higher than Int, simply because one extra skill and the ablity to understand Draconic pales in comparison to a +1 to hit and damage. The 17 went into Con of course. Wis and Cha got the penalty range stats.

I went with weapon focus Great Axe and Improved Initiative for his starting feats.

Not quite what I had originally envisioned, but not bad.

Neonsamurai is right.. CON is definately the Barbarian's best stat. Case in point: I got my barbarian's Con up to 20 and at level 17 he has over 200 HP (a toughness feat and above average rolls helped). Needless to say he's hard to put down and getting those couple extra raging attacks up front in the thick of it before having to worry about dying helps a lot (after all to a Barbarian fighting is all about who falls down first :) ).

STR would be a close second. DEX and WIS and equal third (Maybe even putting WIS in front as DEX is less useful as you go up levels and aquire magic armour). INT next if you are going to be skill focused, CHR if you plan on being a leader.

For feats I would definately aim for combat oriented ones. Weapon Focus (I chose Great Sword for the better crits), Power Attack, Improved Crit, etc. Cleave and Greater Cleave are cool when you get to use them, which is not often, so I would put them on the back burner. You may want to consider feats such as Iron Will (barbarian's will save sucks|) or one of the better toughness feats (never can have too many hit points).

You may want to even go for flair... a dual weapon wielder, two weapon wielder, or some other strange weapon... not necessarily the most damage, but the image of a large half orc jumping on something big and pummeling it to the ground with his spiked mailed fists is too crazy to pass up sometimes!! :D

Personally, I just came up with a replacement character (if my current one dies). Bar/fighter/rogue...finishes 4/4/12...anyway two weapon fighting and snow tiger lodge at first working up to power attack and power lunge. Add sneak attack and rage and you have a lot of damage if you charge while in enemy is flatfooted.

My favorite weapon for a barbarian is the scythe, it only does one less damage on average than the greataxe (5 + str vs. 6.5 +str) and a critical is killer (can do 32-60 points of damage, 44 on average, with a str of 18 at level 1, which can be reached naturally, usually with a half-orc, or in a rage).

As far as feats go, if you are going to be a straight barbarian, I like power attack, cleave, improved initiative, dodge, and mobility as starting feats, depending on your playing style. Weapon focus isn't worth it since you'll have a high enough strength and the highest BAB and extra rage isn't necessary. If you want to multiclass (I like fighter, rogue, cleric, and/or druid with a barbarian), extra rage is worth it and so is weapon focus if you plan to get weapon specialization.

And for ability scores, I think strength should be highest, followed by constitution and dexterity, but that's how I prefer to play my barbarian.

You should start out making a plan for at least up to level 20 before to decide what feats to take. It all depends on what you want to become. If you wanna go Barbarian 20 then it really doesn´t matter, else it does!

I think you would be safe no matter what the plan is to take power attack, extra rage. That extra rage may get you to the next day.

If you're going to be a tripper, how about chain + combat reflexes?

monkey grip + 2 keen falchions with improved critical.

take ambi-dex and twf for 1 level of ranger (having track and favored enemy will not hurt]

ur on ur way to hack and slash, you are also prepared to take on Tempest prc which makes a twf falchion rager so deadly.

oops ur using 3.5

Then take the fighter for the bonus feats. it will not hurt with extra feats.

My personal favourite is twin sword style, monkey grip 2 falchion with TWF, ITWF and improved critical and weapon focus n specialisation.

make ur stuff keen and vorpal...muahahahaha....heads will fly when you rage, which makes it cinematic.

*SWOOSH !*

Player: I rolled a crit !!

DM: As you roar with rage, your slash takes the head off your opponent.

Player: Sweet....

Kaelas, could you please write in common english instead of kiddie-speech?

twf is sub-optimal for a barbarian. str transfers best with power attack which is best used with a twohanded weapon.
twf needs extra damage dice like sneak etc pp.

in 3.5 keen and improved crit do not stack.
vorpal does only work on a 20 regardless the weapons threatrange.

[QUOTE]Wolf Berserker:
@1 Jotunbrud, Power attack
@3 Improved trip,
@6 KnockdownQUOTE]

wolf berserker is a feat that you can get access to by joining the lodge, you have to pay a feat ordinary.

taking power attack at 1st is suboptimal since there is not much BAB you can trade in, move the feats accordingly.

note that jotunbrud does not scale with enlarge person, so if your DM is lazy about items get some permanent enlarge and save the feat. or go half-ogre or minotaur.
