My first character was a failure of enjoyment. I want to build a class that is a brutal tank. We are only playing these characters to level 6-7 in this campaign. However we may continue running these characters after the campaign, so keep that in mind.

Place wherever you see fit. I was thinking dwarf fighter, but by any means please ideas out there.

I'm starting at level 2, or to be exact 2000exp hence level 2.5. 1,000gold to spend on gear etc. I want this character to be as TWINKD as possible.

I should also state, were stickin with 3.5e any wotc allowed. I really just want this guy to be a canowhoopass.

I'd like to clarify a little bit. The campaign we are in is The Lost City of Barakus. Those builds are keyed in at 10th level(were only going to 6-7level), a good idea for base, but many involve mounted combat, or a single encounter fight for a cleric. While almost everything we have been doing is underground as of date.

After reading through all of that I am leaning toward a cleric build of course, but some of it is well a bit extreme even for me. (The bonus of using cleric buffs strictly for himself is not a problem since the group is laced with healers). Money so far has been very minimal, and I only have 1,000gold to work with.

I'd also really like to stick with PHB, DMG core books. I know this is asking a ton, but I'd like to have a nice feel of this character being orignal, or different. In other words I'd like to keep it simple but as I stated before I wan't him to be able to take the hits aswell as deliever em.

The character I'm playing in a different game is a 3rogue/2fighter and almost 1assasin, so I'd prefer to avoid the rogue scene ;) .

Our party currently consists of

Lev 3 Cleric
Lev 4 Bard
Lev 2/1 Ranger/Rogue
Lev 3 Wizard

Thanks again for the advice.

Hello,
are you playing 3.5 or 3.0 ?

I have 2 ideas :

with theses stats how about a dwarven paladin ?
Ask your DM whether you are allowed to take the Gold Dwarf form FRCS.
It is a dwarf with con +2 and dex -2.

1)
Paladin 2
Gold Dwarf

Str 18 / Int 10 / Wis 13 / Dex 13 / Con 16 / Cha 16

This way you have good saves and smite evil.

Saves
3/0/0
3/1/1
3/3/3
-----
9/4/4

Equipment
Chain Mail
Tower shield
Dwarven Waraxe

or 2)
Barbarian 1 / Fighter 1
Deep Dwarf (3.5 MM)
Darkvision 90 e and +3 saves against spells and poisons

Str 18 / Int 13 / Wis 15 / Dex 16 / Con 17 / Cha 8

Feats
01) Dodge
02) Mobility
-------------------
03) Power attack
04) Spring attack

Equipment
Breast Plate
Greatsword

for 3.5..
dwarven fighter 6
1-toughness
1-bonus-improved toughness(complete warrior)
2-bonus-improved toughness
3-roll with it
4-bonus-power attack
6-roll with it
6-bonus-cleave

dr 4/-, lots of extra hp, and decent melee.

I say go dwarf fighter/paladin and work your way toward dwarven defender, this way you're good against tanks and spellcasters

Str 18
dex 13
con 16
int 10
wis 13
cha 14

I posted a barb1/fighterX/FrenziedBerzerker build in that thread that you might be interested in. It was at level 10, but I listed the level by level progression, as do most of the builds in that thread. So you could play it at whatever level you wanted.

Also, I had an idea for a tactical fighter type a while back, but never played it. I was going to go something like barbarian2/rogue3/ranger2/HolyLiberator3 and use a light flail and a small spiked shield and fight two weapon style. The idea was to be defensive and tactical, tripping and disarming your opponents. You could also use a spiked chain, but I wanted to do something different. I see so many spiked chain builds on here that it turns my stomach sometimes... You could go into Frenzied Berzerker later also and have a good enough Will save to not freak out and kill your friends (most of the time ;) ).
