| D.K.R.06-08-05, 06:43 PM | Okay, I hope this isn't considered double-posting, but google search isn't working, and I am looking for something I saw previously (many many moons ago) on this board. The character I am trying to design specializes in throwing grenade-like weapons, see the thread at http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=443469 if interested. I am looking for the thread which had thrower builds, some were 'gatling throwers' who had insane numbers of attacks/round, some were going for amazing damage or accuracy for each throw, etc. Anyone remember and hopefully have a link to that thread? I have googled the boards (advanced search feature) about 20 different ways and have come up empty handed. |
| Qaetar06-08-05, 06:56 PM | Basic idea: Thri-Keen (sp?) for multiple arms/multiattack with Master Thrower for Palm Shot (2 attacks at once.) Otherwise, Halflings with Skiprocks and Palm Shot or with the new Boomerang weapons and Boomerang feats. As always, with Palm Shot. (Qaetar) |
| djinni06-08-05, 07:22 PM | with the new Boomerang weapons and Boomerang feats. As always, with Palm Shot. where are those feats? and weapons? |
| Axle_Steelcat06-08-05, 07:24 PM | Its in races of Ebberon... Where is that super thrower hafling of boomerangs thread? |
| Kintara06-08-05, 07:30 PM | Hmm, I don't know the thread either, but I've thought/read about such builds before. The three best Master Thrower (Complete Warrior) abilities are Trip Shot, Weak Spot, and Palm Toss, imo. Two with One Blow is often put forward, but I think Trip Shot is much more impressive. This assumes that you are NOT a Brutal Thrower. Doubletoss is a pretty nice Trick if you're going for Strength to damage. I'd still consider taking Trip Shot, even with only an average Dex. You get what's essentially a free Trip with your attacks. How can you beat that? Swashbuckler can be a good dip, as you can tack on your Insightful Strike damage, as long as you're throwing a finessable weapon. Lots and lots of weapon damage rolls make Weapon Specialization more appealing, as well. Any spell or ability that adds to weapon damage, but doesn't need to be cast individually on each weapon is nice. The spell Divine Favor and the psionic power Offensive Prescience come to mind. Inspire Courage works. And then there's going the Sneak Attack route. Halfling Fighter/Swashbuckler/Master Thrower/Whisperknife builds have been done. Whisperknife is in Races of the Wild. The good thing about Sneak Attack is that it saves you some trouble figuring out ways to make your weapons do decent damage, but it also encourages you to get up close, and you need to set them up. Besides, many monsters are immune. That said, they can be scary. A nice psi power from Races of the Wild is Telekinetic Boomerang. Using that power, you can save a lot of gold on weapons. If you're throwing a lot of weapons, magic item costs become a concern. Sanctify Martial Strike from the Book of Exalted Deeds can align your weapons for you. There's a pair of gauntlets or something in the PGtF that will give any weapon you wield the THrowing and Returning properties. Another solution would be to come up with a homebrew weapon enhancement based on the effect of Telekinetic Boomerang, a sort of Greater Returning. |
