Alrighty now,

I'm playing a warlcok at the moment and continuously feel that deviating from the class will be the doom of my character. Anyone have some interesting ideas on what 3.5 prestige classes compliment the warlock's flavor

[if there is other talk on this subject, feel free to link]

The one I see most commonly is Chameleon 2 for that floating bonus feat. You can take any feat you qualify for, so eventually you can craft just about anything.

Thanks.

What about classes for making the warlcok survive on his own? In a recent game, I got my butt handed to me by an undead...I learned quickly that warlocks can't take much damage. In the end I took 15 points of Con damage Ouch! :OMG!

the problem is that most PrCs dont offer much to the warlock PrC. or if they do (caster progression) they cant qualifiy for them. One PrC that while very difficult to qualify for is arcane trickster. you need to find a way to get 3rd level spells but it increases your eldritch blast damage nicely

I always liked the enlightened fist, but I don't think it's a very powerful combination.

I just posted something like this in another thread the other day: Sorcerer 1/Warlock 4/Bonded Summoner 10/Mindbender 1/Fleshwarper 4

required feats:
Draconic Heritage (gold) - to get heal as a class skill for Fleshwarper and Graft Flesh
Precocious Apprentice or Improved Krau Sigil - to get 2nd level spells to qualify for BS
Graft Flesh - for Fleshwarper, duh

Use to Fleshwarper levels to give yourself a gargantuan flying (if you didn't pick air) elemental. Transform yourself into an elemental too and have fun. Use your invocations to control the field while your familiar does all the leg work.

Last I heard, Precocious Apprentice was not enough to qualify for Mystic Theurge. I think the entry requirements are worded the same way for BS, so why would it get you into that class?

Precocious Apprentice doesn't work for MT because the slot it gives goes to the first class to hit 2nd level spells, so when you hit cleric 3, it becomes a divine slot. Bonded Summoner avoids that problem.

Yep, I'm only working with a single casting class here (well, I guess two if you count warlock).

I have a dual caster bonded summoner build that requires a lenient reading of the rules. I think it went something like this:
Druid 4/Wiz 2/Mindbender 1/Arcane Heirophant 2/Bonded Summoner 10/Fleshwarper 1
- take the AH levels first, and get your companion familiar
- then take bonded summoner and replace your companion familiar with the elemental (this is the questionable part)
- theoretically your elemental now gets extra hit dice as your companion familiar, etc.
- plus grows a size category from Fleshwarper (druid levels give you heal as a class skill)
- you can also wildshape then cast animal growth on yourself and share it with your elemental (making it colossal)

Um, but that doesn't really belong in a warlock thread :P

There is very little that can just shrug off 15 points of Con damage--it doesn't say anything bad about a warlock's staying power that that almost killed (or did kill) you.

For the prestige classes, precocious apprentice is not intended to allow access to prestige classes, per the author of the book. You can ignore that, since I don't think it has gotten into the errata yet, but if you want to follow the spirit of the rules I wouldn't abuse it.

What about the Illumian Improved Krau Sigil?

Well, if you really care about intent, the requirement to cast a certain level of spells is intended to stop you from taking the class before a certain level, as written in the DMG.

As for Warlocks, they don't need a prestige class. They don't benefit greatly from any prestige class and they get a rather nice ability at level 12, which makes full progression in most prestige classes problematic.

Acolyte of the Skin for a more demonic warlock, Daggerspell Mage for the dual dagger weilding hideous blow warlock, Mindbender for the more charming of warlocks, Urpriest for the warlock with no master. Other than these there are not that many prestige classes warlock can get into.

The Warlock Theme Builds (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=353886) thread lists a few more flavourful choices: Disciple of Asmodeus, Dragonslayer, even True Necromancer via a very convoluted route... Green Star Adept works, too.

Unless it's been errated so as to be broken (I don't keep up on errata and things like I should), hideous blow is a standard action that provokes AoO to make a SINGLE melee attack.(note: not a touch attack) you can't dual wield it or get multiple attacks from high BAB or haste. Basicly hideous blow is the worst invocation on the list.

Although Acolyte of the Skin can indeed be nasty fun :)

Another option is to get the Necropolitan template. It opens you up to turning/rebuke, but gives you those nice undead immunities which would solve many of the warlocks vulnerabilities (sneak attack, ability damage, energy drain, etc). Plus when you get high enough to get utterdark blast you can heal yourself. :D

I do highly recommend the chameleon 2, use that changing feat slot to get whatever craft feat you're using that day, and if you are not crafting that day you can use it for something else like improved initiative or weapon focus (eldritch blast), etc. That way you don't have to spend the very limited number of feats a warlock gets on crafting feats.

My Warlock 21/Blood Magus 4 has 376 hit points, does 13d6 damage with one blast, and can make 5 clones of himself via "Scrolls" (from the Blood Magus ability) on his arms using the Wujen spell "Body Outside of Body."

Starting stats were 18, 18, 17, 16, 14, 13. He's Human.

Since you can put up to six scrolls on your body in this fashion, you can have all kinds of fun with Time Stop, Summon Elemental Monolith, Body Outside of Body, True Ressurection, etc. While your "clones" may not be of much "use", it's still great to have them around.

His Eldritch Blast has also been turned into a Supernatural Ability via Feats. There is all kinds of fun you can have with Warlocks if you do it right.
