Best Warlock Race? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-07-05, 03:56 PM I'm looking for the best +0 ECL race for being a Warlock. Pick a book, any book...

I want to build a Warlock that's mostly dependant on Eldritch Blast... perhaps not solely, I'll probably take other Invocations, but I'll be mostly Blasting away.

Strongheart Halfling +2 dex bonus feat

ummm.... Since you are going blasts stuff that add dex, cha, or dex and cha.

Lots of people seem to like the whisper gnome, but I believe that is more for astetic reasons than optimization.

{Edit} oh and Xeph is nice. bonus dex (I think) and psionic so you qualify for phyic shot line of feats.

12-07-05, 04:06 PM Oooooh. Forgot abotu Xephs. They're perfect... no Charisma hits, bonus to dex... I could even switch off between Mindblade and Warlock! :D

12-07-05, 07:31 PM I would suggest that the Magic Blooded Template from Dragon 306 makes any existing race better for single class warlocks, especially Humans. If you plan on heavy multiclassing, it's bad (because it changes your favoured class to Sorcerer), but otherwise, the bonus to CHA and penalty to WIS, added lowlight vision, and extra spell like abilities fit perfectly with a warlock.

12-07-05, 10:00 PM Maybe start out as a small race, then have a permanent reduce cast on you ASAP. The size and dex bonuses will help out some.

12-08-05, 07:15 AM Yeah, after finding the magic-blooded template online, I have to say that it does seem pretty sweet for what I want... especially on a Human. Adding it to a Xeph would be... intresting, because they'd end up downgraded from darkvision to lowlight vision, but they'd have the dex AND cha bonuses I needed for a good warlock. Plus all the racial bonuses to magic would stack, I think...

And I have to say there's something tempting about a Xeph throwing an Eldritch Blast that's also focused with Psionic Shot...

12-08-05, 07:26 AM Warlocks are nice in that they're pretty detached from their Ability Scores, so there are a lot of races that work well for them. Personally, I like either Humans or Strongheart Halflings. For the one I'm playing, though, I chose Inspired (EbCS) b/c the DM ignores +1 LAs.
