Best way to Build Jack the Ripper? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-09-05, 02:29 PM Wondering if you can help me build a character similar to jack the ripper for a D&D campaign and also an eberron campaign.

Obviously he would be human

I was thinking rogue, or possibley urban ranger

Make sure to take ranks in (knowledge, Surgery) and (profesion, docter) and spend some of your gold on a nice top hat and cloak.

12-09-05, 05:08 PM It's true, current theory holds Jack the Ripper to have been a qauck doctor, but other theories abound. If you want just the general feel of Jack, I'd go with Rogue, maxing out ranks in Move Silently, Hide, and Forgery. The doctor rarely if ever spoke to the police of the time, so Bluff shouldn't be necessary, but Diplomacy should be useful for enticing the prostitutes to their doom. As for weaponry, a Dagger of Wounding should do the trick, maybe Vicious or Vorpal too.

Especially the top hat as it's old school goth, and I respect those kind of people (I'm a borderline (old school) goth). I listen to The Cure... have him do the same:P.

12-09-05, 07:55 PM First, I'd definitely take mostly Rogue levels with a few levels of Ranger. Ranger will net you the Heal skill which, coupled with Profession (surgeon) or something like that will give you a Jack-esque background and a way to keep the girls you cut on from dying so quickly. You might also want to throw in a few levels of Assassin (for death attack) and a level of Spymaster (for the cover identity and undetectabe alignment).

Take the feats Craven from CoR and Deadly Precision from XPH to give you a nice surgical flavor to your sneak attacks. If you want, you can also go further in Spymaster to add your class levels to Will saves against scrying, dispel scrying sensors, and eventually make it so that the person divining on you can only find out information appropriate to the disguise you are in.

12-11-05, 02:25 AM I think theres a feat in Song and Silence that allows you to hamstring an enemy, this would be good for dealing with those speedy prozzies that have fast movement! :D

Some people think Jack the Ripper was actually a mentalist member of the royal family so maybe do that?

Also, have him send letters to your players written in blood!

Here's one of Jack the Ripper's real-life letters:

Dear Boss,
I keep on hearing the police have caught me but they wont fix me just yet. I have laughed when they look so clever and talk about being on the right track. That joke about Leather Apron gave me real fits. I am down on *****s and I shant quit ripping them till I do get buckled. Grand work the last job was. I gave the lady no time to squeal. How can they catch me now. I love my work and want to start again. You will soon hear of me with my funny little games. I saved some of the proper red stuff in a ginger beer bottle over the last job to write with but it went thick like glue and I cant use it. Red ink is fit enough I hope ha. ha. The next job I do I shall clip the ladys ears off and send to the police officers just for jolly wouldn't you. Keep this letter back till I do a bit more work, then give it out straight. My knife's so nice and sharp I want to get to work right away if I get a chance. Good Luck.
