| Drag0nUL09-22-06, 08:35 AM | I am looking for a good way of entering the chameleon prestige class. I have probelms especially in meeting the 8 ranks in bluff and disguise. I don't want to go full 5 levels of rogue since I don't think in synergizes very well with the class. I am looking to include at least 1 level of cleric(turn undead=>divine metamagic)in the build. Any help would be appreciated. |
| MerlintheTuna09-22-06, 08:38 AM | Uh... you have read what the Able Learner feat does, right? I mean, it is a prerequisite for the class. You don't need to take 5 levels of Rogue to get 8 ranks of Bluff/Disguise. You only need to take one, really. This would be true even without Able Learner, although it certainly makes things easier. |
| Drag0nUL09-22-06, 09:02 AM | I have read the able learner feat. It says that costs only 1 skill point to advance any skill even cross-class. But I am worried about how to get 8 max ranks in those 2 skills by level 5(since with able learner the max cross-class ranks remain the same). To do that they have to be class skills for every class in which I take level,right? |
| kabof09-22-06, 09:07 AM | To do that they have to be class skills for every class in which I take level,right? From the SRD: "If a skill is a class skill for any of a multiclass character’s classes, then character level determines a skill’s maximum rank. (The maximum rank for a class skill is 3 + character level.)" If you're going to take one level of Cleric, just grab the Trickery Domain (Granted Power: Add Bluff, Disguise, and Hide to your list of cleric class skills.) |

Without the Able Learner when you level up, gaining 1 skill point for a non-class skill of your new class cost you 2 points (even if this skill is a class skill for another of your classes) |
| ChristopherGroves09-22-06, 09:35 AM | Rogue 1 w/ Able Learner + 4 of just about anything else works. |
| Harliquinn09-22-06, 09:45 AM | I"m curious why you don't think Rogue synergizes well with Chameleon? You can continue to advance your rogue-like skills with the class while getting a Chameleon Focus ability each day as well. |

I guess I have to read more.I appolagize.I didn't know that:( @Harliquinn: I don't think rogue doesn't synergize too well with chameleon for a number of reasons : 1. Most of rogue 'trademark' abilities you can get with Chamelon as well: evasion, trapfinding, sneak attack. 2. Rogue's d6 hit die and BAB progression is a disadvantage for playing a more combat oriented character. I just don't think a rogue adds too much to a chameleon wanting to focus in other areas. |
| kabof09-22-06, 10:43 AM | Oh, it's impossible to know every rule. =] Anyway, here's a "Chameleon 10" build. Pretty strong: http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9053168&postcount=23 Well, that sure is a powerful way to be a Chameleon. |
| FriendlyFrog09-22-06, 10:52 AM | Rogue extremely good for a Chameleon that wants to focus in other areas, as that way you don't have to have the Stealth focus on at all times, as you can actually have a focus that helps you with those other areas. For example, let's take a Rogue 5/Chameleon 10. He can fill the Rogue role even without the Stealth focus, as he has Trapfinding and skills to back it up from Rogue levels, so he can take Divine focus and Arcane focus. That way he can be a Rogue/Wizard/Cleric at the same time. The problem of using Stealth focus to do your Trapfinding is that you pretty much have to use Stealth, and can't use another focus until level 7 of the Chameleon. |
| Egarb09-22-06, 11:53 AM | I Actually like warblade with skill knowledge taken to cover the skill he doesnt have. Make an awesome martial chamelion. |
| Hanniball09-22-06, 12:29 PM | Clr (trickery domain)1/Hexblade 2/Ftr 2 Good BAB, Cha to saves, and two bonus combat feats. |
| Dragon309-22-06, 01:24 PM | I'm a warlock fan esp with the new eldritch glaive invocation. Hmm with ability boon the warlock ought to hit easier. |
| Richmud09-22-06, 02:57 PM | For a melee/divine focus consider this: cleric 1 (with trickery domain)/swordsage 4 You get wis to AC in light armor, wis to damage (and the posibility of dex to damage with the appropriate feat), as well as divine casting |
| aelryinth09-22-06, 03:00 PM | You really mean Rogue/8 Chameleon/10, right? There's a BAB req. ==+Aelryinth |
| Richmud09-22-06, 03:21 PM | You really mean Rogue/8 Chameleon/10, right? There's a BAB req. ==+Aelryinth Chameleon does not have a BAB req |

| monkey309-22-06, 05:13 PM | My favorite is: Changeling Hexblade4/Warshaper2/Chameleon10/Warshaper2/???2 Gets you to level 18 with a 14 BAB. I am sure you cannot beat that. (You can tie it a number of ways). On top of Chameleon goodies, you get +4 str/con from warshaper (fast healing, reach, immunity to crits), full BAB, familiar, and mettle from Hexblade. Add +6 ability boost from to str from chameleon and you have a +10 str before adding item buffs. I'd play this myself, but my current campaign has a 1 PRC rule :mad: |
| Necromas09-22-06, 05:28 PM | Rogue BAB doesnt actually get you a penalty in the long run. Chameleon has 3/4ths BAB too, so if you use fractional BAB rules, a full BAB 8/rogue 2/chameleon 10 has the same BAB as a full BAB 10/Chameleon 10. Full BAB version gets 10 + 7 from chameleon levels Other version gets 8+9 from chameleon and rogue levels Personally, I prefer Feat Rogue 2/Fighter 2/Barbarian 1, gets you evasion, 4 fighter bonus feats, rage, fast movement, no BAB loss in the end, cool skills, and still decent hp. |
| HelloRaptor09-22-06, 06:20 PM | It's often overlooked, but Bard or Cloistered Cleric are good entries for Chameleon as they give you access to Bardic Knowledge / Lore, abilities the Chameleon can't mimic. |
| carnivore09-23-06, 03:55 PM | Personally, I prefer Feat Rogue 2/Fighter 2/Barbarian 1, gets you evasion, 4 fighter bonus feats, rage, fast movement, no BAB loss in the end, cool skills, and still decent hp. actually you would have a BAB +4 with that setup....but my favorite entry to Chameleon is Similar.... Feat Rogue Variant 2/ Ranger 2/ Fighter 1 mainly for the Feats and Skill points :D |
