| Paradisio03-12-06, 02:02 AM | Basically I was wondering what the CO board has for ideas. We recently snuck into a dragons lair when they were out, and while currently I think we are pretty hopeless in collecting all the treasure therein, I was pondering what spells/items/etc... I might procure in the future for such purposes. I'm not talking about a couple bags of holding full, I'm talking about the starting wealth of 30+ level characters. We estimated using the dimensions of the mound that there is at least 6 million coins in the hoarde. And given that the dragon could return any moment, I'm basically throwing my arms up in the air to try anything. While I don't expect to get much out of it this time, I was wondering what you guys thought. |

| Paradisio03-12-06, 02:17 AM | "It can not be deactivated unless empty" |

Now you can shovel treasure through the gates. It will go (briefly) to the astral plane, and then pass back to your base. Easy as pie. Also, summon up some creatures to act as porters. This will greatly speed the moving of the cargo. If I recall correctly, there may even be an 8th level spell in the Dragonlance books that will do the same thing with just one spell. |
| Anor03-12-06, 03:47 AM | Haha tricky =) |
| Sylvar03-12-06, 04:01 AM | Hire a half minotaur half-ogre with a hauling back graft (Fiend Folio), a framed pack (Arms and Equipment Guide) and with the feat "Natural Heavyweight" (planar handbook). (PS. Yeah, magic is probably better but this way is funnier :P ) |
| thorian03-12-06, 04:04 AM | A little more about your party's resources would be helpful. What level and caster types, specifically? Anyway, the 2E psionic power wormhole from Will and the Way is great for that, just open it up under the hoard and let the loot fall in. But, I'm guessing your not playing a high-level 2E psion. ;) - How about Gate and then Control Winds to blow it through quickly. - It might also be accomplished by using a Miracle spell to move the items in the room to wherever you wish. - A portable hole is the biggest storage I know of. There is no weight limit and it holds ~280 cu.ft. - There is a mass unseen servant spell in Complete Arcane called Servant Horde to get lots of helpers (about 20 or so). - If there are large, heavy items, then the Shrink Item spell works wonders. - Hide from Dragons is a spell in the Draconomicon which will be VERY helpful if the dragons return while you are looting. - Summon Monster or Summon Nature's Ally can get you lots of quick help. - Planar Ring Gates from the Planar Handbook would make the job easy, but they are 200000gp. You put one ring gate where you want the loot to go, then throw all the loot through the other ring gate. |
| Surreal03-12-06, 04:26 AM | step 1: Hulking Hurler step 2: pick up dragon's lair step 3: profit :D |
| Fugazi03-12-06, 07:52 AM | :heehee Surreal. I suppose Floating Discs arent gonna do it for this one tho. |
| Lyinginbedmon03-12-06, 08:06 AM | What about the ordinary ring gates? |
| hogarth03-12-06, 08:57 AM | Shrink Item spells? Portable holes? |
| Prominence03-12-06, 09:58 AM | The gate thing sounds best, but if it doesn't work with your DM, there's always portable holes and ring gates. Just unfold the portable hole sideways into the ring gate, so you don't have to worry about strength and 'shoveling'. A folding boat might work too. "A second command word causes it to unfold to a ship 24 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 6 feet deep. Any objects formerly stored in the box now rest inside the boat or ship." "A third word of command causes the boat or ship to fold itself into a box once again." Toss it all on the boat, speak the word of command, and you now have a box filled with... stuff. |
| sparkster424203-18-06, 01:40 AM | if a fire and its fuel can be considered one object, then surely a container and its contents also qualify? Shrink Item is definitely a very nice spell to have in this case - it can turn a hoard and a pile of blankets into non-encumbering patches... and in the process, separate out all the magical loot (which Shrink Item cannot affect). hmm, you could try Stone Shape - close up all the entrances, and its no longer a dragon's hoard - its yours :p |
